For this assignment I tried to focus on the 3-D printer demonstration. As discussed in my blog, with this technology would come endless possibilities in various fields of life. This meme is trying to portray one of the future uses of the 3-D printer.

I chose memegenerator.net to complete this task as I found it to be a very effective way of creating memes.

As part of my final project I would like to research how the new media is affecting our educational system. As more and more schools are doing digital and paperless, how will that impact new media and how important is new media in the educational world. I would like to find out if schools, colleges and universities believe that new media almost mandatory in our time of age, or is it not even needed? Through this research I hope to find the answers and understand new media from an educational perspective.

As part of my final project I would like to research how the new media is affecting our educational system. Today I created an account in Wiki and added a reference to one of the existing pages “Sikh Center of San Francisco Bay Area”. I wanted to add a reference as I have been a part of this place and wanted to add more sources for Sikhs in Bay Area.

While reading Marshall McLuhan’s “The medium is the MASSAGE”, I was struck by the above passage that talked about the relationship between the media and the education. Marshall McLuhan wrote this in 1967. And he was only talking about the influence of television on the way young people behave and learn. Today the age of the television has been run over by the ‘Information Age’ including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, iPhones, Blackberry, Androids and so on.

But if we look at education in the classroom it still involves reading textbooks, answering questions at the back of the chapter and so on. Are we preparing our students for this world is the question that keeps coming in my mind…

This assignment gave me a chance to think about education from a totally new perspective. I always thought high school was boring and tedious. McLuhan gave me an answer to that thought that why was it boring and what can be done now to make it interesting.

I really enjoyed researching about this topic and collecting statistics related to informational technology. Overall it was a great experience.

To start off this post I would like to thank my professor who gave us an opportunity to view the next big thing in the field of technology. It was just amazing to see how a printer can create three dimensional solid objects.

I think that this new technology will have a great impact on the upcoming generations that will be able to use this product for endless uses, be it the field of architecture, industrial design, engineering, education, medical industry, aerospace, the list goes on and on and on…

I hope that it doesn’t costs a fortune so that people can afford it easily and create their own stuff themselves… Just the way they want it!
