stress relaxation techniques

this was the last possible personal enrichment workshop and that is one of the main reasons i went. but aside from that, i also tend to get stressed out easily so it was good for me to go. i walked into the multi-purpose room and it was filled with students. a lot were older but there were some freshman here and there. there was masseur giving massages in one corner and there was a wall of food on the other side. the workshop was sponsored by hillel and the health and wellness center so they had a couple of speakers talk about stress management and ways to relieve stress. there was one woman who said therapy may  also be a great way to relieve stress and mentioned the counseling center at baruch. i think this was a good workshop overall, not only because it was easy, but also because it was a workshop on something that happens to everyone, almost on a daily basis. i would definitely recommend it to a friend as well.

Freshman Reception

I attended the freshman reception because it was the first workshop to be offered. I figured that I might as well attend because we need to go to these workshops. Apparently it was way more crowded than expected and there was not enough room for everyone. We were then split into smaller rooms and spoken to. I learned about core classes we needed to take and what GPA’s were needed for the different parts of Baruch. Overall it was a hectic, yet informative experience.

Blood Drive

The workshop I attended was the blood drive that took place on December 2nd.  The only requirement for the workshop is that you do what it’s called: donate blood.  This took my far out of my comfort zone because I am terrified of needles and get queasy from blood.  I decided to do it because it was for a good cause and I never really get involved with  opportunities to give to others so I decided to try it.  I was proud of myself afterward and will probably do it again next semester.

Blood Drive

I went to the blood drive on december 2nd in room 1-107 in the NVC building. It was the first time i gave blood so i wasn’t reallt sure what would happen. I also didn’t know that their was different types of donations. I chose the double red cell donation which is both blood and plasma ( I think ). I also didn’t feel as bad as i thought i would but i was still a little dizzy. The whole process was about one and a half hours to about two hours which was a little longer than i expected but it was fine.

Bloomberg I

This was my final workshop.  It’s actually a library workshop, but i was allowed to attend this one in place of an academic enrichment workshop since there weren’t any left.  I learned basic things about the Bloomberg professional service, like which mnemonics to type into the search bar to faster get information about companies and their stocks and equities.  I had to share a computer with someone else.  It’s not that there were a lot of people present, it’s that there aren’t many computers with the program available which is understandable since it costs about 1800 dollars a month to be able to use the program.  I might actually go back to the second part of the workshop because learning to use that program would be very useful in the future and it would be an impressive skill to write down on my resume.

basic interviewing techniques

i attended this fair with a couple people from our block. it wasn’t as boring as i thought it would be. they taught us about all the do’s and don’ts of interviewing: what to wear, how to act, and even how to properly shake hands. it was good cuz they were willing to answer any questions so it wasn’t like a lecture. i would definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted to learn more about interviewing. it was very helpful and informative and i learned a lot.

student services fair

i attended the student services fair actually by accident. i was passing by to go to the library during my break and i saw a lot of people walking in to the multipurpose room area. i bbmed one of my friends and she happened to be in there. she told me it was a freshman workshop for fro so i went rite in. it was fun trying to go to all the different stations and get punched. most of the stations required you to ask a question and while this was a little hard for some tables, it wasn’t so bad. i learned a lot about the various services offered in our school and it wasn’t a long boring talk. i would definitely recommend this to another freshman. it was fun and pretty easy and yet i still learned a lot.

20th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall

The workshop i went to was the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall on 11/5 from 5 to 6:30.  The workshop was practically an explanation from those that were on both sides of the Berlin wall when it was first put up to the time when it came down and how peoplelived on each side. The speakers talked about how the west side was different the east side of Berlin and how that changed their lives and their opinions of the situation and how it affected their lives and family. I took this particular workshop because I thought it would be cool to see what happened when friends and family that you regularly know are separatedand made to survive on their own. It took me out of my comfort zone because it enlightened me to what happened and how hard it is to not be with your family for comfort. I would recommend this to another student because it was very interesting and exciting for me. It added some depth to what i previously thoughtabout the fall of the Berlin wall. I learned alot from this workshop such as what it takes to help a family survive in dire times and what one has to go through to survive a war within their own borders.

Resume Writing Workshop

I went to this workshop on november 17th. I wasn’t that good. I learned some important facts about how to set up my resume and what to put in it, but it was confusing because they didn’t show us any examples, but it did clear up some things that i was a little confused about before i went there.

Values, Pressures, and choosing a major

I went to this workshop on november 16th and it was a little better than i expected. They kept the kids involved with activities. They also told us some common things that we are doing wrong. One of them is that we only think of the future and not the present, which is something i do, and that when we choose a major based on what we like now and not on what we think will make us the most money we will be more satisfied with our choice.
