Managing Relationships

This workshop was very good. It taught students how to handle their many different relationships that they have in college and outside of college. Relationships with spouses and friends can be greatly affected if not handled with care. In this workshop the speaker made us get up and introduce ourselves to new people. She made us talk to the people around us and on the other side of the room. This workshop was beneficial because it has helped me deal with a lot of my current relationships.

Club Fair

Even though I attended the Club Fair a while back, I remember what happened like it was yesterday. Before i walked into the gym i expected this Club Fair to be just like the Street Fair at the beginning of school. It was completely different and crowded. There was barely any room to move around. During the Club Fair i walked around and collected free things from the clubs. For example, I got a bag from the Apple Club, shot glass from The Ticker Club, and art books. Besides the presentation of Clubs i was entertained by the performances they had and the costumes some clubs wore. Alot of my friends joined clubs like NABA and VITA but i just played my part as a viewer so that I could join a club next year when i get settled into Baruch. The Club fair was amazing and very informative. I would definitely recomment the club fair to others who want to join a club or looking for information on clubs. I cant wait for the next club fair so that I could join a club.

stress and anxiety

I attended this Personal Enrichment workshop thinking I had to just get it over with. But after the workshop I realized that the tips they gave and exericises were actually helpful. At the beginning of the Workshop we had to carefully and meditatively analyze a raisin. This helped to increase relaxation and mindfulness. Towards the second half of the workshop we learned how to organize decisions we make in our lifes through a method called DEARMAN. This method allowed us to carefully analyze every element of a problem and how to fix it. At the end of the workshop the researchers played a soothing bell while we closed our eyes and relaxed. Through this meditation we was able to relax and relieve our body of any tension that we had. This was a great workshop and I would definitely recommend this to students because college does get stressful.

Academic Advisement

This workshop was both complicated and useful. The database survival workshop was the steps and guides to learning how to use baruch’s library’s database. Their database consisted of finding everything from a news article to books on many different topics. The researcher went through search, advanced search and how to dumb down the process of searching for research articles.  Also Baruch’s archives are one to envy because their many different choices that gives the students access to hundreds of books that are within the cuny library system. Also, there is a phone number that gives you access to a 24 hour librarian that is always there to help. I know many student would rather choose to google information for their research papers but once you get the hang of using Baruch’s library’s databse, you will find yourself finding the best research out there. I would definitely recomment this workshop to everyone because it is a useful tool to be able to find accurate and credible information for college.

Coloring Up Your Future

This was a workshop where a politician Alfonso Quiroz talked about his time being involved in the business and political world. During his presentation to us he talked about difficulties that he had encountered through people not always taking him seriously in politics and his career. I think that his main focus was to show us that it is okay to be who you are and not try to hide it just because you are being ridiculed for it.  I felt that this workshop was very interesting and he was able to get his points across because he was very confident and honest with us.  I hope to never encounter any myself, but if ever I will know to not be ashamed of who I am.

Global Awareness

Before I wanted to do any workshops, I thought that it was unnecessary and a waste of time. But when I heard about the global awareness workshop that showed a movie instead of giving blood I couldn’t wait. I was excited and eager to watch it because I love watching old movies because they have more meaning. When time came around to watch the movie, I wad highly disappointed. The instructors of the workshop informed everyone that the movie was cancelled. Then the assistant informed us that the teacher with the movie couldn’t be found. But my effort didn’t go to waste because they signed our books for showing up. Hopefully during my winterbreak I can borrow the movie, “Intimate Stranger”, from blockbuster and watch it for myself.

Arts At Baruch Workshop

For the arts at baruch workshop i attended a tour at the mishkin. Personally finding the mishkin was the hardest part of this task. Many students in Baruch dont actually know where it is. So for anyone who did not go it is on 22nd street. The tour was quick and short and showed the kinds of art that baruch has to offer. I may not be a big artist or like art for that matter but the photographs were very intriguing to me. The tour ended quickly and we didnt get enough time to observe everyrthing and get the full experience.

Stress Relief WOrkshop

On Tuesday I attended the stress relief workshop which satisfies the personal enrichment section of freshman seminar. This was an interesting workshop because it focused on being calmand stay stress free. We started out the workshop by smellig, tasting, and touching a raisin. I have done this before in psychology and knew what to expect. The outcome was a more hightened Sense of aware of what you eat. The proctor wanted us to get a sense of mindfulness with this experiment. We then moved on to learning how to be assertive using the acronym dearman. Using dearman would be useful in many cases such as asking for a raise from your boss. Before we left we had a muscle relaxation session. I believe that this is a very beneficial workshop. It shows me that there are ways to be calm and stress free even with all the work that I have to do. It was worth goin to.

Community-Global awareness

1.The Changing Nature of Race, Power and Ethnicity in the Era of Obama and Sotomayor
2. Community-Global Awareness
3. Wednesday October 14 4:00-5:30PM
4. The goal of this workshop was to show how race has influenced the world and this country specifically. Race and ethnicity was a big issue in this workshop especially regarding Obama and Sotomayor and how advances have been made to break racial tension.
5. I selected this particular workshop because I had free time and other people from my block were going. This workshop didn’t take me out of a comfort zone because I learned about this topic in high school and im learning about it now in one of my classes.
6. This workshop met my expectations because form the title of the workshop I knew they were going to talk about Obama and Sotomayor and usually when they’re names are brought up racial and gender issues also arise in the conversation. I would recommend this workshop because it was an interesting discussion.
7.We learned how there are still racial and gender issues in politics. People still vote or look down upon females and African Americans. I realized that even though Obama and Sotomayor made great advances in getting rid of these barriers they still exist. There wasn’t anything really surprising about this workshop because it was mostly factual.
