DACA Recruitment Letter
Dear DACA Student,
We are inviting undergraduate student beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to participate in a focus group discussion about DACA. This focus group is part of a 3-year study aimed at documenting how DACA is being implemented in different cities around the country and how it is experienced by individuals like you. We are interested in learning about what is working well about the program, and what challenges individuals have faced.
Each focus group will include 4-6 Baruch undergraduate students who have obtained deferred action status under the DACA program. During the meeting, you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts about the DACA program. We will facilitate conversations regarding: (1) your experiences with work and study prior to obtaining DACA; (2) your experiences with obtaining DACA, (3) your experiences with work and study after you obtained DACA; and (4) your thoughts about applying for DACA renewal.
We will provide several opportunities to participate in a focus group between 5/5/14 and 5/15/14 (depending on participant availability), and each will run approximately 90 minutes. The discussions will be facilitated by Els de Graauw, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Baruch College. The conversations will be audio-recorded, but your participation is voluntary and you may stop participating at any time. Please be assured that anything you say during the focus group will be kept strictly confidential, and we will not release or share any information that can be linked to you. To compensate you for your time, all participants will receive a $25 gift card at the end of the focus group. Refreshments will be provided.
This study is funded by the National Science Foundation and has been approved by the Baruch Human Research Protection Program (Reference #13-12-163-0131).
We hope that you will be able to join us for this important discussion! If you are interested in participating and/or have questions about the focus group, please contact Els de Graauw at Els.deGraauw@baruch.cuny.edu or 917-224-0807 before May 2, 2014. Space is limited.
