Final Paper!(dana)

I am finishing my paper, and  I just remembered I needed to blog! I hope everyone is progressing with their papers. Writing this paper has really been challenging, I really wasn’t  aware of how much I needed to cite,  until receiving my draft. But, I’ve working hard  to  make sure my paper is organized and cohesive. I know before handing it in tomorrow I will need to make a series of revisions.

Good Luck to you all, and see you tommorrow

Matthew’s Research Update

I understand this is late and won’t receive credit, but I will post anyway.

Over the past week, I’ve really tried to fill the holes in my paper as evidenced by my lackluster presentation. I was confused about my own premise as well as the reasoning of my argument and made strides towards fixing those and I believe I did.

I made changes to each of my reasons, in order to get the most concise and coherent statements and added really great sources to back them up, which was a blaring problem in my presentation.

I made some really great changes and am excited about finishing up this paper. In my first draft, failed to mention criticisms and suggestions;  I will be adding those, too.

After I submitted my paper I went back to information did not put in my paper I realized some of this was valuable information. It can make my argument stronger and points clear. I put effort into my paper and hoping it will turn out good. I’m still a nervous wreck and worried. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Rene’s Research Progress

Hi everyone.

Well the time has finally come to complete these essays! I worked on my paper a little over the weekend but I’m waiting to get my feedback in order to finish the rest of the paper. As I’ve said over the past several weeks, I am confident I have all the information I need, but my challenge is to put that information together in a way that is easily understandable. I think I did a good job of doing that I’m my draft but I will see what feedback I get from Professor Kafka. I am confident at the end, I will deliver a good paper on why immigration policies in AZ and CA created to restrict illegal immigrants affect the citizens of those states as well.

In any case, good luck to everybody! We’re almost there guys! It’ll be worth all the hard work we did these past months in only one week!

Celeste- Writing Update

Hi Everyone!

So, after turning in my rough draft last week, I realized that I am a bit dissatisfied with my research.  Although I have a number of sources, I feel as if I need more, especially on the influence of suburbs on city economics, in order to really flesh out my argument.  I also feel as if I need more historical/background sources on the changing role of the police force in United States law enforcement.  This will help to explain the unique position that the police are in today with regards to policing, and working with, communities with people of color, something that is relative new (past 60 years).

Writing the rough draft was also a great way to realize the holes in my argument; I realized that some ideas were obvious to me, but would not necessarily be that forthcoming to my reader.  Looking forward to working out the kinks this week!

Hope everyone else is doing well.  See you tomorrow!

writing Update (Dana)

This weekend I sat down to add more to my draft, I was a little bit unsatisfied with the amount I came up with. I was hoping I could have turned in more for the rough draft. Now  in the final days of writing,  I don’t know if anyone else is having this problem of  feeling overwhelmed  by the information. I find that many of the things I found interesting during the research process deviate from the purpose of my paper, I’m hoping the end result is not flat and boring.

Update

Hello All,

This week I have just been working on my main argument, focusing my central ideas then branching out. I have also started writing my counter argument but I still have to add so much more to it. The only issue I have is that while I have several of my sources, I probably will come across a few more over the next few days so I’m wondering what to do about that. At this point most of my effort is going into the main argument of my paper and I’m just waiting to get my draft back so I can fix things up and begin wrapping up.

Staring Anew

Dear Class Members,

During these last few weeks, I have been struggling with my argument for in seeking to build a solid case in favor of transfer-focused vocational programs, I found that there was not sufficient data that could demonstrate the effectiveness of these programs. Furthermore, the studies that did demonstrate positive results and in some instances a significant increase in retention compared to general programs within the community college, seemed to raise questions with respect to who these programs admitted for it limited admission to students that successfully completed their remedial course load, which had been found to be a significant barrier for many students. Although I felt frustrated, I recognized that I had come upon a new opportunity and I diverted my focus toward remedial programs in community colleges. Connecticut has introduced a legislative proposal to end remodel education within community colleges and although the measure may seem drastic, it has prompted action and may induce educational institution to continue to build momentum around improving their remedial programs.

Matthew, Research Update

Hey everyone,

Over the weekend, I’ve been working on my draft and preparing for the presentation. This has been extremely helpful in setting a foundation for the paper and I am aiming to have 10 or 11 pages done by the 29th (possibly more, but it seems like a safe estimate). Currently, I’m past the introduction and onto the first reason in bu I need to be mindful of the structure of the paper and not jump around and to make sure my reasons are clearly defined.
