My take on Graphic Design

Christopher Wong

Before reading the article, I thought graphic design mainly comprised of images placed in a visually appealing way. After going through the article, I realized that graphic design has more parts to it and effects myself more than I initially believed. Graphic design also includes words and their positioning in order to convey a message. I always found that people who could do that creatively had a special talent. For part of our first assignment, we had to take pictures of signs that we saw. I guess that task prepared me to read this article in order to broaden my knowledge about graphic design. I found that all types of typefaces and images were around me, even a block away from home! I am now more informed about this topic and am ready to continue learning about it.
The one question I would ask the author is, “Will graphic design become more immersive in the future or develop beyond the mediums we have now?” As of now, we have many mediums. Mediums like newspapers, magazines, books, websites, apps, etc. are plentiful and all around us. However, some of it seems to be two-dimensional. Maybe in the future, virtual reality will improve far enough for us to use it for advertisements, websites, etc. 3D printing may even be an option!
