Field Analysis

This work of art was found in the Newman Vertical Campus on the 10th Floor by Tom Tat What makes this piece interesting is the big red hand with numbers on it and the list with words under it. We can see the numbers repeat from the list, on the hand, and even next to the door frame. What is implied is the numbers on the hand may correspond with the words under it, a way of reading your hand. What I want to know is what the rest of the numbers signify and if the next word that is cut off could be “luck”.

This piece was the first of twelve, made in April of 2002. This piece seems to be conceptual art from my understanding. It reminds me of the front of psychic reading places, where a hand is always a symbol at the front or on signs. People who like aesthetic pieces would most likely be the target audience for this art. What drew me to it was that it had an aged aesthetic to it from the worn-out wood/paint and the warm lighting. I think the purpose was to share an experience he may have had in this specific location and convey it by taking a photo of it. I think the creator intended to showcase a part of a room he found to be eye-catching which gave rise to the image. This piece has its main focus on the left We can see that the rest of the numbers and what they signify are cropped out along with what the door leads too on the right. I think there is an element of ethos. The numbers and what they signify can speak to a person and the characteristics of their life. The image makes me feel out of place. The identity markets in this image are the numbers and what they signify. It tells us what the marks on your hand can say about your life. I think it is an interesting piece of art.
