Madison Square Park

While walking through Madison square park there were a lot of memorials and states all over but the one that caught my attention the most the was the memorial of David Glasgow. What made it interesting and stand out was its size and how much larger it was than the other memorials. The main parts shown in it was the statue in the middle with the two walls underneath with writing carved into it on both sides of the statue of David Glasgow. Repetition occurs with the similar lines in the statue and on the scripture wall beneath the statue. Binary oppositions are shown with the contrast between the statue and the park beneath the statue, which can show the significance of him and how he was view by the public. It is implied that he was a hero and a man of importance by the built and size of the statue with him When first seeing it I was only left with one question before I read it which was why was he so important.

The monument briefly speaks about his war efforts in the Civil War and he was a war hero. The monument resembles a statue I’ve looked at previously in high school AP US history class. That monument we looked at was a solider from the US Union which is why it looks similar to that of David Glasgow. The identity marker shown is the union uniform showing which side he fought on. This statue was targeted for American citizens and for people which an understanding of history to honor a war hero for this country. Although the colors blend in with the park with the grey stone and metal it stands out and people notice it due to its massive size compared to everything else in the park. There is pathos shown with the statue with the sense of indention you feel when looking at it. The statue has a powerful look with all the weapons it has and the size of the statue intimidates people who look it with the powerful look it has. People keep stopping for a couple of minutes to observe and take pictures with the statue and what makes it successful is its size and how ti stands out. People seem to pay tribute by admiring it and observing it then takings pictures from my observations. I thought it was a very interesting memorial and unique and it was honestly thrilling to stand on it and learn more about it.
