The artwork I chose is named “Myrland Constant” drawn by Ti Pierre Wald.
This piece interested me by how unique it was compared to the other pieces of artwork. The color, art style, and overall look had an appeal to it and I thought it would have an interesting story to tell. The backstory behind this image is the story of Haitians rebelling against their European rulers as well as cultures intertwining because of there forced migration to the new world while mixing with the Europeans.
I would put this artwork as a rebellious kind of piece. It doesn’t follow the norms of other artwork and it depicts a very unique look. The intended audience is likely westerners specifically westerners who are unaware of the history of Haiti and the art piece is supposed to urge them to educate on it.
It’s arranged where a haitian man is sitting in the middle surrounded by haitian artifacts as well and flags. It also has a coating of shine to emphasize the beadwork tradition of the Haitian people. The image makes me feel interested in the history of Haiti. It also makes me feel happy by seeing all the different colors as well as the glow of the image. There are very clear indications of mixes across races and cultures because that is the entire meaning behind the artwork.
