Manovichs’ principle of variability interested me the most. The idea that we have shifted from old media to a now new media full of different possibilities and variations of a single thing is crazy. It’s interesting to think about how media started and the simplicity of it in my eyes, but it was probably such a important part of the change in the society. We can look back and see the timeline of the shift from old media and programming and hyper media new media, but I wonder at what capacity society back then believed media would end up. I think about how far they were capable of projecting into the future and their thoughts on how beneficial new media is. In our current day some people may believe that new media has ruined our perceptions of things and our relationships with ourselves and people. that could be true, but new media allows us to create new relationships and have these new interactions without having to travel far. We take that for granted sometimes because we’re just so used to being able to immediately send a message and it’s more convenient for us and that is something else that can be argued on whether or not it’s beneficial or harmful. New media fits with our current society just like old media fit with the industrial society. It also seems kind of scary when I take more time to think about how immediate everything is and how things can be interactive with new media and technology and how my information my actions are being taken into account by web pages. This isn’t to say that I don’t reap the benefits and that I don’t like the quickness of things. I do consume a lot of new media technology, and I believe it will be a big part of my personal and professional life and it’s always so interesting finding about new media and technology, but I’m also wondering how much more advanced we can get or how much more variety will we have 50 years down the line
