Before the reading I did not necessarily put much thought into noises found in everyday life or sound being considered art before. I typically consider a lot of different things to be forms of art but I don’t think a single sound or noise found in everyday modern life is considered art. For example I don’t think a car honking or a water faucet itself would be considered art. It can be turned into art when manipulated and combined with something else but it itself is just noise. I liked the little distinction he talks about between noises that aren’t typically considered art/music and pure sounds. It reminded me that there are so many noises that can be manipulated into different tones and pitches and speeds to be turned into music/art. The realization of this makes limitless possibilities. We are no longer confined to a certain range of sounds. You can record your own noises and remix it. There are a lot of ways to create a similar sound too. For example it doesnt need to be raining for you to record rain noises.
I randomly chose Taylor Deupree and also chose Airwaves. When I listened to Taylor Deupree it sounded like a soundtrack for a horror or fast paced thriller/horror movie. It was more of a slow sound. Airwaves started out very upbeat. I would also see it being a movie sound track of a dance musical upbeat movie. Overall I do consider these pieces of art but I believe there are different levels and categories. Some things take longer than others to create so it would be fair to judge them all on the same level. There’s simple creative art and there’s more intricate art. There also different people that prefer or know how to appreciate certain art.
