Buddhism, Taoism and Mountains

“The Five Great Mountains refers to five of the most sacred mountains in Chinese history, and they were the subjects of imperial pilgrimage by emperors throughout ages.”

Taoism (Daoism) believes that a human can have a close relationship with nature and universe by following gods’ teaching. (you can be a part of nature after your body die, but your soul becomes an  immortal being or we can say a human god). The major philosophy of Taoism is persuading people to find the balance of life in order to live longer (in ancient, immortal).

So how to find a place that can close the god, close the nature, and how to find a place to relex your soul, to pratise your religous belives ?

Buddhism says  to challenge yourself, to suffering what normal people couldn’t suffer.

Taoism ask people to steel their will, to give up cravings, to find the balance of life, to be one of the nature.

Both Buddhismand Taoism agree that you have to stay away from the society, your family, give up the mortal life, and cravings. When there is no love, no cravings, you will have no suffer. Monks and Taoist priests usually recluse and ascetic in sacred mountains.

Mountain Hua is one of China’s Five Great Mountains and has a long history of religious significance. Hua Shan is classified as having five main peaks, of which the highest is the South Peak at 2,154.9 meters (7,070 ft). On South Peak where you will find the famous Cliffside Plank Path.

 

Taoist priest Xin, who is the only one allowed to walk through this path without any safety equipment. He practices the Taoism in Mountain HUA, and his major job is taking care of a Taoist cave (kind of a small temple created by an ancient Taoist recluse) located at the end of the Cliffside Path.

You can watch it after this class and remember, in ancient there is no secure ropes, no steel strips as you see in the video. They climbed this Cliffside Path without any protection.
