Who do you think you are?

Summing up who I am in a paragraph or two would be difficult to say the least. But to give a shot anyway, I think of myself as an opportunistic guy. I seek and open up opportunities to give myself an advantage over the “other” guy. I can be a nice, mature, and laid back person and I try to show respect to everyone that I think deserves it.  As for a good laugh, I think my rather dark humor is an important element of my personality and therefore should be noted here as well.

My transition from high school to college has gone as expected. My schedule being much more flexible, it allows me to spend my days more productively. However, many of the same vices that tempted me during high school are still persistant. I have still yet to cut down on my hanging out time to focus more on schoolwork; hopefully when I get through my prerequisite classes, this will change. I have also had consistent problems with applying an effective organization routine to my schoolwork which has troubled me greatly. Lastly, to do with Baruch specifically, I’ve had my share of concerns about it being a commuter college. This type of setting isn’t the perfect environment for Baruch students to really involve themselves socially. I feel that while at a stay away college, students are forced to involve themselves with others, people here at Baruch are more likely to be doing their own thing, with their own group of people. I see both sides to this however and at least this brings about more of a variety as to what’s going on around the campus, making this college experience much more exciting.

With a month into my first year of college, the difference from high school isn’t very substantial. I still have a similar morning to afternoon schedule (although longer classes, and less of them make it that much better), however, there is a much greater feeling of freedom in Baruch. No one is holding the students here by the hand and this forces everyone to fend for themselves. This is a great way of teaching independence and responsibility to students here and I hope that it helps me improve in these areas as well. By the end of the 2010-2011 school year, I hope that I will fully transition to college life. I want to get in control of everything in my life so I can concentrate on doing the things I love and improving myself all around instead of stressing about things due to poor judgement. I also hope that by this time I will have picked a major that I am certain in so I can focus on excelling in whichever field I will eventually go into.
