I am an eighteen year old girl who has lived in the city her entire life. I like to consider myself a New Yorker since I’ve reached that point where I’ve memorized most of the train stops in my borough, have discovered my favorite hang out place (which happens to be my local Starbucks), walk to the train car that will arrive at the nearest exit of my destination, and walk and eat way too fast in comparison to the average human being. Growing up, I always walked to school so my city adventures never really began until high school. Then, that’s when I discovered what was outside of my neighborhood, and how interesting the rest of the city was. Aside from SoHo, I’ve been to Brooklyn Bridge Park, Little Italy, Upper East Side, Times Square (but I mean, what type of New Yorker hasn’t been there before), Union Square, the World Trade Center area, and the list just goes on and on. In the end, however, SoHo has always been my favorite. I think that, while the rest of the city continues to renovate and update its appearance competitively, SoHo seems to remain the way it was. From its cobblestone paths to the beautiful cast iron buildings, there’s something intriguing that makes me want to know the stories behind each corner of every street. SoHo is not simply made up of buildings and streets, but of tales only known by a handful.
