Hello world!

Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka tells the tail of a man, Gregor Samsa, who wakes up one day to discover he has transformed into a large insect. Something interesting about the story is that Gregor isn’t bothered by the fact that he is a bug but by the fact his family is disgusted with him and that he is late to work. I see this as an ode to the idea that as a society we are moving away from the idea that we should be fully in and of our surroundings no matter how strongly we dislike them. Fully embracing the situation allows us to absorb the circumstances in greater depth.

Furthermore, usually in nature insects morph into a bigger and more beautiful beast. Metamorphosis plays at a reversal of this idea, changing Gregor back to a more raw, ugly and primal state.
