The Sleep Cycle

Do you ever wake up feeling tired even after sleeping for a sufficient amount of time? I’m sure this is a question that intrigues everybody and the answer may be simpler than anyone figured. A possible reason people experience this phenomenon is because they wake up in the wrong stage of their sleep cycle.

sleep stages

The sleep cycle is the routine a person undergoes while they are asleep. Each stage has a specific purpose and developing an understanding of the sleep cycle and then using it to your benefit, you can wake up feeling much more rested. Waking somebody up in the first or second stage of their sleep will leave them much more well rested and alert for their entire day.

People woken up during their seep sleep stage are usually unable to recall the last few minutes before they fell asleep. This sleep-related form of amnesia is the reason people often forget telephone calls or conversations they’ve had in the middle of the night. It also explains why we often do not remember our alarms ringing in the morning if we go right back to sleep after turning them off.
