Family Typography

With a combination of serifs and sans serifs, Jo Moulton’s Family Typography is vivid and sharp. It gives off an elegant yet homey feeling to it. The sizes of the words are all in different sizes and scales. Personally I enjoy looking at this design because the words have meaning and the words are well arranged.

Martha Stewart’s Designs – Hw 4

marthadecorating

Martha Stewart’s designs style gives off a warm feeling in her books. They are not too distracting and everything falls into place. The color schemes of the fonts matches the whole book cover. They layout of these books are in sync with the image of her and the objects.

In this image, the typeface “cupcake heaven” are in lower case, which gives off a small cute feeling. The cupcake looks delicious and it makes me want to eat it. The image of the cupcake draws people in and the fonts are easy to read. It is very simple and clear.

Hw 2: Dead History

Who knew that a mixture of the traditional serif font Centennial and the Pop classic VAG Rounded would be combined together creating a whole new creature called Dead History. P. Scott Makela’s new typeface designed in 1990, was designed by manipulating the vectors of readymade fonts showing a strategy in contemporary art and music. By embracing the burden of history and precedent, this typeface has played a role in every typographic innovation.

DeadHistoryBold

This typeface has a mixture of serif and non serif which is appealing because one area of the font is thick while the other area of the font is thick. It is similar to Bodoni, however it is more bold and gives a twist in the shape and size of the typeface.

Homework 1

I really enjoyed watching this video because it shows the audience that technology is taking over the printed books. Everyone are able to download books to their kindle/ipad or whatever device they have. There is no use for publishing books anymore. However, books create a whole new atmosphere and gives a sense of warmth, unlike the new devices we have today. I would prefer reading something on a published book because to me, it is easier for me to read. Whenever I read on a device, somehow, I can’t concentrate and tend to skip sentences. This video is interesting in that it poses a question if bookstores will out of business because of these technological advances. I honestly think that even though having a device is more convenient and much more lighter than carrying a heavy book, having a book is necessary.
