Baruch’s Chemistry Lab Tutorial website is effective in teaching people about lab safety. It is divided into 6 sections: an introduction, exploring the lab, what to wear, safe lab practices, emergency scenarios, and a practice quiz. I like this website because I can jump around to different sections instead of watching all of the tutorials. I also have the option of skipping slides or replaying them. Another feature of this website is that I can read the text or listen to the audio. It’s a good idea to have the text because it’s easy to miss some of the things in the audio. The slides also have pop ups of important points. In addition, in the emergency scenarios section, I can click on objects in the virtual lab and in the what to wear section, I can pick out a person’s clothes. These interactions help make this educational site a little fun.
The design of the website is much simpler than a website that is trying to sell a product. It has simple shapes and is not cluttered. The color scheme mainly consists of yellow and orange, but it’s not too bright. I think these colors were used so that the tutorial is not as boring. Overall, there is nothing “wow” about this website, but it’s clear and easy to understand.
I had to go over this Lab Tutorial too a few weeks ago. I does indeed teach people everything about the lab. It’s very animated and colors are all of what a lab would look like. The slides remind people of certain important things. Overall, the Lab Tutorial site does teach, and also gives the person a bit of an entertainment as well. The website is simple. Shapes can be drawn. It’s where most “science trendy” people might like to go.
I went over this tutorial like two weeks ago too. I like the use of the color on the borders. It catches your eyes since its a lighter color but it doesn’t hurts the eye like a bright yellow would. The buttons are very organized so it is very easy for the users to navigate the tutorial. By providing a similar visual of the lab, it allows the student to understand which part of the lab the tutorial is referring to. It will make the tutorial very hard to understand without these visuals.
I went to this website before when I took my chemistry course last semester. This was a great website to learn about the Lab Tutorial because the flash visual trying to model the lab exactly the same way. In a way, as a student I felt that it helps us to learn where all those lab equipments were located, which help us in advanced when we went in to the lab room. Overall, the animations and colors brought out the vividness of this site.
