Banners!

The Hallmark website for Free E-Cards, Photo Cards, Greeting Cards, and many other categories of cards has a banner on its front page where you are able to choose the type of card that you are looking for. When you scroll over the card categories you are able to see a preview and what you will expect if you clicked on that category. The banner is very colorful and has nice images but if compared to the banner for the Barnes and Noble website, it is not as interesting and fun to look at. The banner for the Barnes and Noble website is a great banner showing Barnes and Noble’s “Picks of the Week.” The images of the items scroll along the banner and fade away as it reaches the end. When you scroll over the items with your cursor, the moving banner stops and information for the item, such as item name and price, pops up. I think the banner was very nicely done. It is creative, looks very professional, and fits in with the rest of the website.

  1. I didn’t like the Hallmark banner. I think it’s too colorful. Also it doesn’t look like a regular banner, it looks more like a menu. It moves only if you go over with the mouse on the cards below, so if your mouse is not over the cards below, you don’t notice it, it just seem like a regular ad that you don’t even bother to explore further.
I agree with you about the Barnes & Nobles banner. I think it is very attractive and you can’t miss it because of its size, movement and the interactivity. I like the fact when you roll over your mouse on a book the banner becomes dimmed and you have a pop up with details about it.

  2. I like the banner in Barnes & Nobles’ website better than the Hallmark’s website because I like the eye-catching fonts on the left side of the banner with this week picks on the right side. This way as a consumer, I notice very quickly what they are promoting. I can ever get a little preview of how much the items are. Meanwhile, Hallmark banner doesn’t do much with it banner unless you move the mouse into different categories, in which I think is very dull. I think they should change or revise their banner.

  3. I think the Hallmark banner is too plain. The colors are nice and vibrant but the simple animation isn’t all that exciting or attention getting. It doesn’t make me want to explore the site further. The Barnes and Noble banner on the other hand is really very visually appealing. I enjoy the interactivity. You can stop any book at any point and see the selling price and even add it to your online shopping cart. I found myself waiting for the entire book list to scroll keeping my attention to barnesandnoble.com for a considerable time.
