Anime is an art form in every sense of the word. Anime has always been successful at expressing emotion through interesting use of color. In many well know anime movies such as Akira, the drawing and detail projects the feeling of the art. The way the lines move slightly against the shadow of the figure walking down the block expresses the feeling at that very moment.
There was one image with a man curiously looking out the window of his car and the way the shadow was used in this image shows the perfect amount of light. The sun reflects off his eyes and shows just enough sparkle that it move in its stillness. The reflection off is car and the lighting in his surrounding makes it seem as if he is endlessly driving. When a still image can look so alive and express so much, it has to be a form of art.
There was another image that seemed like a city that was about to explode under fire. The picture was so lively that as I continued to look, it seemed as if the action was happening right before my eyes. After closer examination I realized that there was a bit of fuzziness applied to the image and a glow that made me focus in harder, making the image come to life. This technique was unheard of to me but it proved very effective in that image.
After visiting the exhibit, it was clear to me that anime is in fact an art form. Images that are drawn with such expression and emotion cannot be denied. When someone comes to life before your eyes and allows you to feel a certain way, it has done its job as art.
