So many Slide shows!!!
For my slide show I really didn’t know what I wanted to do at first so I started to think about cliched phrases hoping to get some kind of inspiration and then it hit me “Patterns of life” so I decided to focus on pictures with not so evident patterns. My designs where meant to be patterns in and of themselves. The circles in the beginning that were arranged in lines to form a pattern and then the stipes that flashed in the same color to form a pattern and then finally the title with the circles arranged symmertically. I see where I went wrong in my slide design however, with the movement of the circles along side the pictures which obviously took the focus away from the pictures but now I know better!
I really enjoyed Jennifer’s “Where am I” Slideshow. The way she made the pictures flip downwards using actionscript really made me sit up in my seat like “WOW! How cool and creative was that!?” Also the creative way she made thee buttons almost seem like points on a subway map and the colors she used to signify the start and the end with green and red respectively also gives it the feel of taking a trip in a car with the idea of stop lights. The beginning was also very creative and the use of alpha was very effective and ofcourse the pictures were very interesting to look at and unlike mine the background did not detract or distract from them.
Nastahia’s final project proposal.
Since I was young I was always entralled by cartoons. Saturday mornings were a treat for me as I would look foward to the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “The Smurfs” and all the other fantastic cartoons that I used to and still love. Then as I got older I was introduced to “Samurai X” also known as “Rurouni Kenshin” which opened my eyes to a whole new style and I fell in love with it. Since then I have wanted to write and animate my own ideas and characters and for my final project I will be attempting to do so!
Here is an example of something that is similar to what I want my cartoon to look like

Slide Show
*Warning there are some obscene words used at the begining of this slide show*
This slide show was conveniently shown to me by a friend and although it is not in the same type of format as the slide show we are preparing for class I find it to be very interesting and different. I loved how they made a complete cartoon in the form of a slide show and although it is just in plain black and white I love how it is drawn and the story is pretty good too! The typography is a bit crude but I think this was intentionally done and actually suits the general feel of the slide show. I don’t honestly see anything I can use from this slide show in my own just because it is so different however it has given me a lot of ideas for my final project.

Good Banner, bad banner.
On the home page of the “Lucky” magazine’s online publishing there is an ad that invites you to sign up for the “Self Challenge”. This ad in my opinion is very well done with the use of movement in the rotation of the petal like shapes with the “wishes” of the participants and also how the petals took on the form of a butterfly and flew off. The use of the background picture of a beach was kind of “cheezy” but still the colours were interesting and captivating. The font they used was readable and “fun” and the colour being hot pink would make people pay more attention to it.

On the home page of the online version of “In Style” magazine there is a banner ad that claims it can help you find your perfect celebrity haistyle. This ad to me is very boring with just a stark white background and the quality of the photos used are poor. Even though I know they used the red and white to keep with the theme of the magazine I think they could have jazzed up the ad a little bit to make it a bit more eye catching.
“What is the relationship between the part and the whole”
The main concept behind the art exhibition entitled “Second Lives; Remixing the Ordinary” is the idea of giving items that have become either useless or obsolete in some way a new chance at “life”, however I believe there is a some what hidden meaning to the term second life as pertains to this case. I believe that becoming part of the art piece the object takes on a second function, completely different to the role it may have held in its previous life and becomes a part within a whole rather than serving a purpose on its own which was the case for most of the items on display, for example as the clothes pins would have previously done. Basically what these pieces of art disclose to me is the idea that without the pieces, however seemingly useless as they may have been on their own, the whole would not exist. Continue reading

Everybody, everybody!
The website I chose to write about has been one of my favorite websites for many years,homestarruner.com. Although simplistic and would probably be perceived as silly by most, this website provides many, many hours of entertainment which was produced with the use of Adobe Flash.
The things that make this website so interesting to me are that the builders made it very interactive and with the intention to keep the user involved even when they are actually watching one of their short ‘toons, for example the main page in of it self can be changed to many different themes with cute little animations and jokes to go along with that theme and then in turn directs the visitor to which ever area they wish to go to . There are also many hidden links included so that while you watch some of the cartoons you can click on them to reveal even more, mostly related jokes. The colours used are quite eye catching and would appeal to both adults as well as children and also adults who still act like children.
In my opinion there is nothing in this website ( that I have personally seen ) that was boring, all the animation is well done ( even though it is simple ) and even when the visiter isn’t actually doing anything there are things that happen as they move the mouse around which I believe helps keeps the viewer interested and entertained and the jokes are quite funny (in my opinion ). All the typography that is used is large enough for most to see except the lower most menu, however, this is remedied by the fact that one can always re-route to the main menu.
In conclusion, as I mentioned before, this website looks simplistic however the idea that the builders made it so user friendly and interactive as well as asthetically appealling while also achieving ACTUALLY being funny makes this website a winner to me!
