Anime is a serious art form.
Though some may feel that Japanese animation is not a serious form of art but I think that anime is definitely a serious art form. As with other types of art forms, where artists have to go through various steps to achieve the final piece of work that they had worked hard planning, working through, and finalizing, anime artists has to go through the same, if not, similar course of action to achieve their final piece of work. Final Project
For the final project I will be creating something that is similar to a website that introduces different varieties of cakes and desserts. To show examples of the cakes and desserts I will be drawing them with the Adobe CS4 program. Viewers will be able to click into the different cakes and desserts with buttons that I will be creating and they will be able to read a description of the cake or dessert. A few words that popped out of my mind to describe what my final project will look like are: rich, velvety, dark, and luxurious. I will be using colors that are of darker shades. For the background I will be using a dark brown or charcoal color throughout. When drawing the cakes and desserts I will be using a thicker black outline, since the style I am going for is more flat and not really three dimensional. A few of these flat images will include cakes, cupcakes, cake slices, and I think I will be including drinks as well, such as hot chocolate and different types of coffee drinks. For the drinks I will be drawing them the same way as the cakes and the drinks will be in big round coffee cups. The fonts that I will be using will be Script and probably Times New Roman. I will be using Script to design the title and Times New Roman will be used for the descriptions of the cakes, desserts, and drinks. This project concept is not meant to sell the cakes and desserts but it is something I thought would be interesting to do and also because I have a great interest in baking and eating delicious baked goods.
Project 3 – Linda Chan Slideshow
My slideshow!
Slideshow
For this weeks blog I found a site called the Photographers Gallery. This site is exactly what the name says it is; photographers photos can be viewed on that website. When first opening the site there is a slideshow of photographs for visitors to view before they explore deeper into the website. The photographs on the slideshow are not faced upright when you scroll through them, but rather they are slanted inwards and when you want to see one picture clearer you just simply hover over that picture in the center and it would face upright. When I first saw the slideshow I thought it was a very creative way of making the slideshow for people to view. But as I scrolled through the pictures in the slideshow it gave me a bit of a headache. So beware to not scroll so fast! Other than that minor issue I thought the slideshow was very professionally done. I especially like the mirror effect on the bottom of the images; like a reflection on water. The design of the slideshow also fulfilled its purpose to fit in with the whole website as well because it gives a very simple, clean, and professional feeling.
Banners!
The Hallmark website for Free E-Cards, Photo Cards, Greeting Cards, and many other categories of cards has a banner on its front page where you are able to choose the type of card that you are looking for. When you scroll over the card categories you are able to see a preview and what you will expect if you clicked on that category. The banner is very colorful and has nice images but if compared to the banner for the Barnes and Noble website, it is not as interesting and fun to look at. The banner for the Barnes and Noble website is a great banner showing Barnes and Noble’s “Picks of the Week.” The images of the items scroll along the banner and fade away as it reaches the end. When you scroll over the items with your cursor, the moving banner stops and information for the item, such as item name and price, pops up. I think the banner was very nicely done. It is creative, looks very professional, and fits in with the rest of the website.
MAD: Second Lives: Remixing the Ordinary
Without one part, there won’t be a whole of something. This can be seen through things in our everyday life. Without a screw a frying pan won’t be a frying pan because the screw connects the handle to the pan. Without that little part, the whole will be incomplete. To have something that is fully completed, we need to have all the parts that make up this whole. Continue reading
Teaching Beauty
The site for L’Oreal Paris includes many interesting flash applications which help you to choose the right makeup, hairstyle, and even hair color. I clicked on the one for hair coloring. The application was meant to help you find the right, or dream, shade of color for your hair. I personally color my hair and also use the hair dyes from L’Oreal so I thought this one might be useful to me. Going through the ‘Find Your Shade’ application there were many instances where they asked questions about your hair and what type of color you may want. So it seemed like I was doing a survey. Clicking through the whole application and ending up in the end with the shade that they called my ‘dream shade.’ After that was done I was able to click into other applications which actually gave tips on what to do to help improve your hair color or what you can do to make coloring your hair a better experience. Through flash, the site gave useful tips on what to do to prepare your hair so that it would be in a better condition to color it and not be as damaging. Even though this site is meant for trying to introduce their products to consumers but many of the things that they teach you about hair coloring don’t necessarily try to sell you one of their prodcuts. Through the tips that are given from the flash applications you can learn a lot about coloring your hair. The flash was done very well throughout L’Oreal’s website. There were very nice images and everything seemed to go together in a fashionable way. Clicking through the site was a very smooth experience and they always had a screen pop up when you would click on a button. This screen would show at what percentage the page is up to until the whole page is loaded successfully. I specifically like it when websites have that feature because I think its a creative idea and also it allows you to know how much more time you have to wait before your page fully loads. I also liked the drop-down menu feature the website has. Whenever you roll over the tabs on the top of the website a drop-down menu will appear and the rest of the site will have a tinted effect and the colors will appear to have a grey film covering them.
Flash Fashion
The site that I found using flash content was the official website for DIOR. I did not randomly stumble upon this site for our first course blog assignment. I went shopping in the beginning of this week to look for a birthday present for someone. I purchased an item from Christian Dior and, the weird person that I am with a habit of searching online for something that I’ve bought in stores, went to their website to see if I could find the item there. While looking through Dior’s site I noticed a lot of flash content was used throughout. Not to mention, the site is almost like it’s never-ending; link after link leads you to different pages for different categories. Looking through the Dior’s website I particularly liked it when I clicked into the men’s section from their mainpage. Once clicked into that section, “DIOR HOMME” seemed to pop out from the screen in large letters but the letters are all backwards. Then as they land on the screen, they become smaller in size and they also twist around to the way the letters are supposed to be facing. That really caught my attention and I thought it was a very creative idea. I also found the timeline of Dior’s perfume over the years interesting to look at as well. When you roll over the images with your mouse you can see the hidden pictures, which only parts of the pictures are shown. Other parts of the site also conveyed simple elegance by using flash.
