Week 10 blog
For this slideshow project, I did it on pictures I took when I went to Taiwan. It was a slideshow with two eyes and a smile on the bottom. If you point on the eyes, the pupil will roll up and I think this part work the best because it is funny so it creates some sort of effect. The intention for this project was to form a happy face with small icons on the two sides to navigate from pictures to pictures, but I didn’t succeed in that when I was doing the action script, so I switch and do a linear one.
I think the slideshow on the movie “Twilight” works really well. The slideshow was not really complicated, but it works well because the design was really nice. I would like to have the design in my slideshow too. The design was gray and gold but it matches the theme of the slideshow. It was too complicated or over design so it doesn’t distract the audience from the pictures or what the artists want to say.
Animation is a serious form of art.
According to dictionary.com anime is “a Japanese style of motion-picture animation, characterized by highly stylized, colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sexuality”. Most people think that art much be set to be a certain form like paintings, sculptures, drawings. Anime usually won’t come to one’s mind when the term “art” is mentioned. Though this is the case, anime can’t be neglected as just any children cartoon a kid watch day to day or TV screen with moving figures. Anime is a serious art form. It is a unique kind of art by itself. It combines all aspects and kind of art to form the art of animation. Animation will be considered a serious form of visual art.
final project proposal
For my final project, I want to use four emotions, sad, happy, angry and surprised to tell four short stories of each. This topic came was the first one that came to my head when I was thinking about this topic so I decided to use this topic as my final project. I feel that everyone will encounter these emotions at least once in their lifetime so I hope the viewers will share the same common feelings when they see this project. For this project, I’m planning to use pictures and a few animations to show the stories. With each of these emotions, the background will have a different color to represents the different feelings. For example, the sad story will have a black or grayish background while the happy story might have a bright background like yellow or green. The beginning scene will have four buttons for the viewers to click that can take them to each individual story. When the viewers get to story, there will be a play button and then the story will begin.
Sanrio’s slideshow
The slideshow that I found is a slideshow about the Sanrio characters on Sanrio.com. I think this slideshow was great because it is easy to navigate and the colors are great. Each character itself is a button where you can click on to read the profile about the characters. When you click on it, the slideshow has a pink flowery transition scene throughout the slideshow. Each character has its own typefaces for the title.

good and bad banner
Good Banner
I think that the animation banner from Neopets.com is pretty good. This site is a game site targeted for kids and the banners are advertisements targeted for them. The banners are really colorful which attracts the kids a lot. The banner is not really flashy and only a small portion of them it is emphasized (e.g. the cartoon character and the button “play”. If you put you mouse on top of the banner, the banner will drop down which allows audience that are interested to see more of the ad. I think this is a pretty good way to do the animation banner because its there and you don’t really get annoy over it.
Bad Banner
I thinkthe animation banners on dictionary.com are examples of bad banners because its not that visualize. The banners either have the product there and then have words sliding across or the product zipping acorss the banner and then the prices come out and then stop. I think that this type of banner is really common and commercial. It doesn’t catches the users’ eyes, thus making them want to look into the banner and learn more about it.
Second Lives exhibition essay
The “Second Lives: Remixing the Ordinary” exhibition gave a second live to the “useless” items in our world. In this exhibition, lots of things, like buttons, chopsticks, catalogs, bottles, that got thrown out everyday in our life were put together in a unique way so it will form a new object. After seeing this exhibition, I would say the relationship between parts and whole is that parts form the whole through different arrangements and connecting materials. Parts are only a small portion of the big piece but it is the foundation of the whole piece. Using this foundation, the artist decides how to connect them, through glue, strings, etc., and arrange it to result in the final piece of work that they desire. Continue reading
A site I came across
Flash Animations. I came across this site when I was browsing on google. This site has many small flash videos that teaches you on various topics from outerspace to water pollution to origami. The site itself is really simple and not eye catching at all, but the videos are pretty good. For example, this hurricane video I just saw uses an animation figure to explain what hurricane is while visuals such as maps also appear while he’s talking. I think that this provide an interesting way to teach a subject and it makes it easier to learn. People tend to remember visual items they see. This site is not as flashy and as colorful as the commercial sites. It is just simple text with simple background.
Japanese drama site
This site (Ryuseinokizuna) is the official site for a Japanese drama I watched before. The thing that caught my attention was the meteor stars flying across the page when you open it against the whole starry scenery. Although this site is in japanese, I can tell that it has something to do with the whole sky background and stars. I think what makes this site works is the choices of colors and uses of animation. It uses a dark bluish background against light color type like yellow, white, orange, making it the words easy to read. I don’t really like the few white boxes at the bottom of the page. I think it doesn’t connect with the other elements of the page. Another part of this site that caught my attention is the transparency outline of the three characters. This transparency makes it blend in with the background also allowing the stars in the back to be seen.
