Krazy!

Artists and critics interpret art forms differently but claiming Anime is not a serious art form is a complete understatement. As displayed by the exhibition entitled “KRAZY” at the Japan Society, Anime has become a worldwide phenomenon since the 1970s and is an ultimate art form that has exceeded the boundaries of animation and illustration. Slide show portfolio.

My final will be an interactive slide show portfolio of my work. I will create a easy to use interface in which  viewers can maneuver around.  There will be a number of “scenes” in which I will have different categories that viewers can go to from the main page. There will also be simple animations on each page to make it look more appealing. I plan to pay more attention to detail with some contrast in shapes and fonts. I hope to find a way to make turn this into a real website after I perfect it.

Photographer Emma Tempest’s website features an interactive slide show of her work. There is two options to view the photos. One is the continuous playing slide show and the other is a clickable feature that lets you view the photos you choose. The transitioning of each photos upon being clicked is a feature I would like to incorporate in my design. The thin san serif font is very sleek and doesn’t take away from the main focus of the photos. I liked the highlighting feature of the mouse when it is position over the photo. This is another feature I would like to try.

Flash headers.

http://cmonwealth.com/

This is an online clothing shop with a flash banner that includes brands and previews of new items. Customer just visiting the site can get a look at some of the new items before even clicking on any link. This is successful in catching the viewers attention and interest if there is something they like. The banner changes when you refresh the page. The images also repeats itself so if a viewer missed it, they would be able to see it again with just a click on the refresh button.

I feel that this website flash banner isn’t designed too well. The banner only has the site’s name and a short sentence with a funky background of the sun rays spiraling. The spiraling isn’t too bad but I felt there should have been more elements included. I would like to see something that could catch my eyes rather then the name of the website in the banner. The flash banner isn’t very interestingeither. It would be more interesting to have multiple interface in the banner change while you navigate through the pages. Besides that the sun animation is done fairly well.

Try Drugs

http://www.trydrugs.net/

It wasn’t easy to search for a flash website that “teaches” but I found this website where you get to learn about about different drugs and the best part was you get to experience the side effects of the drugs through the interactive flash interface without having to actually do the drugs. The layout is fairly simple. There is really bold typography as well as plain text. The supporting sounds for the drugs was relative to the interaction of the website. The sounds gave an easy but dazed out feeling similar to which one would go through while using drugs I presume.  For each drug there is unique flash animation and supporting images as well informative reading. The smoke from marijuana and the lines of coke were raw and in your face. The site is very successful in giving viewers a taste of the damaging side effects of drugs. I tried a couple of drugs and I felt the interaction worked well. I did get slightly annoyed because my mouse was scrolling all over the place but I suppose that the message the site was trying to teach is drugs can screw you over.

Toast Concept.

http://www.toastconcept.com

I have noticed recently that artists have started using the flash interface as a layout for their online portfolios. Or maybe I am just a little behind the times and that artists have been using this medium for some time now. Anyways, I got a chance to visit this site called the Toast Concept. It is a website showcasing a portfolio of designers that include design and motion graphics,  product, and toy designs. It has a basic website interface which works because it doesn’t seem so complicated to maneuver around. It has a great opening animation of a toaster which attunes to the websites name. While loading there is also an animation of a toaster flipping bread to keep the user interested while the page loads. The animation isn’t flat but rather eye catching with the 3d rendering. The artwork showcased is nothing short of amazing and well put together. The only thing I felt didn’t work was how small the font was.

Overall I was pleased with the website. The colors were interesting, being to bright and flashy. The simple interface is easy on the eyes and mind. The content is enjoyable and inspiring. I think the concept of a toaster is brilliant.
