My slide show was the one that showed hope. In order to obtain the the photos, I send out a facebook message to my friends and asked them to send in images that they believed showed a hope for hard times. Few replied, but I was able to make a small slide show out of the images received. I am pretty satisfied at the way the slide show turned out. I wanted it to be simple and kind of stylish at the same time. The complicated slideshows frustrated me in the past, so I decided a simple one would be best, without the long intro that everyone would have to see every time they came back to see it. They only thing that i would’ve liked to do was a sliding thumbnail gallery instead of the lines of photos. I believe it would’ve given the slideshow more control in terms of design.

I liked the slideshow that had the sliding thumbnail gallery in the roll of film, although it was a bit fast and hard to control. With that, I also enjoyed the transitions of the slideshow showing the road to school by a girl and the various things she would see. The layout was unique and the control was pretty intuitive and again unique.

I decided to make my slideshow Twilight themed because I am a huge fan of the series. Here, I created a slideshow that takes you through the story of Twilight in 10 frames. I think the graphics I created for the slideshow is what worked best. I decided to give it a gothic or dark theme to go with the overall theme of the story pertaining to vampires. In retrospect I think I could have given it a better introduction. I give it a small animation in the beginning (images and text sliding into frame) but I think I could have done something a little more creative with it.

Overall I accomplished my goal for the slideshow. I wanted to give everyone a little taste of something I enjoy in a beautiful way and I think that came across.

Just to note again: the music doesn’t play here because I linked it externally. By linking externally, the music isn’t compressed and sounds better than putting it in the .fla library.

Another person’s slideshow that I did enjoy was Liat’s ‘Reflections in Puddles’. The animations used were very creative and goes along well with the theme of puddles and raining. The intro music also fits the overall theme. I also really like the way you can navigate through the pictures and the actionscript behind it. The transitions used to go from picture to picture are professional and eye catching. Overall a lovely slideshow!

The general idea was to basically create a nice and simple slideshow. However since I thought we supposed to create two different slideshows I sort of had to divide my efforts into both the linear and nonlinear and therefore couldn’t really make anything neat and fancy. Anyway I tried to make the slideshow as appealing as possible, and in that aspect I think I did well. But in the end it didn’t turn out the way I wanted, if I had known that we can do a combo linear and nonlinear I probably would have come up with something a lot better.

A slideshow that I really liked was Reflections in Puddles. It had a nice appeal and I enjoyed her intro scene very much as well as the roll of film that also acted as buttons. The rain was a neat effect as well.

Week 10 blog

For this slideshow project, I did it on pictures I took when I went to Taiwan. It was a slideshow with two eyes and a smile on the bottom. If you point on the eyes, the pupil will roll up and I think this part work the best because it is funny so it creates some sort of effect. The intention for this project was to form a happy face with small icons on the two sides to navigate from pictures to pictures, but I didn’t succeed in that when I was doing the action script, so I switch and do a linear one.

I think the slideshow on the movie “Twilight” works really well. The slideshow was not really complicated, but it works well because the design was really nice. I would like to have the design in my slideshow too. The design was gray and gold but it matches the theme of the slideshow. It was too complicated or over design so it doesn’t distract the audience from the pictures or what the artists want to say.

For my slideshow project, I created my favorite doll collection called Momiji. I accomplished a lot in this project because I used many techniques to complete each scene. In the first scene, I created music buttons that can play, pause and stop the music throughout the scene. The second, third, fourth and fifth scenes also use buttons to link to different scene by using the same circle shape to create the apple, flower, sun and tree. I also use motion and shape tween to create the butterfly and flower, which I liked very much. I think it fits very well in my slideshow.

Furthermore, the slideshow I enjoyed watching was the one with the slider of rolling film strip at the bottom with many thumbnail photos. I liked the way she created the effect of the rain and the puddle of water in each photograph. The “Singing In The Rain” song fits greatly in slideshow. I would like to learn and take away from was the actionscript of the rolling film slider, which I think I would use in my future project.

Slideshow

For my slideshow, I chose images of animals because i was randomly looking through pictures and liked the quality of the images. From there I made the interface simple and allowed users to click both thumbnails and back and forward arrows, I would have liked to animate how the images showed up on my slideshow project but didnt get the actionscript to work.

I like Jennifer Moy’s clean interface that intergrated a map that can be used to scroll through the pictures and that she used the actionscript to allow the pics to drop down when the next or when she clicked on a button on her map. It just gave the slideshow a nice effect with simple functionality and clean design.

For my slide show, I chose to use different pictures found on the internet related to illustrations. Most of them were colorful and were filled with different characters and objects. I chose this theme because I like cartoon like illustration a lot, especially those that are created from illustrator. I think they look very clean and crisp with bright colors. Since I chose the illustrated images, I thought it would be nice to have an illustrated background so I made some figures from illustrator. I added a spinning wheel on the top to create more movement to the background. I also included a button allowing viewers to click and change the layout. I think what worked well is the animated slideshow that plays automatically when the play button is hit. I don’t really think there are parts that needed more attention, but there are parts that I should have left it as it is (so with less attention). I think most of the time when I try to do many different things at once I tend lose focus and confuse myself, and that usually leads me to making a bigger mess out of what’s already there. In this slideshow, I think I was trying to add too many things on it that some of the functions just stopped working right.

As for the goal, I think I have partially achieved it because at least to me I thought the slideshow looks pretty interesting. I learned how to make an automated slideshow with a button to activate it and I also learned how to jump between different frames to make the layout change. I would probably have achieved the other part of my goal if maybe I left some parts alone as it was first created. So that would make the slideshow look simple and nice.

I like Tiffany’s slideshow on Taiwanese food and dishes, I thought it was cool seeing all the delicious Taiwanese style foods and her layout looked very different from mine. She had more focus on her images, where as in mine, many things are happening throughout the show. I think from her I can learn to keep my focus in one place and try not to do so many different things at once. Similar to Tiffany’s style, Joseph’s slide show was also very focused on one interesting theme. I really like his idea of using a dark image/background to create more focus on to the picture being presented. I think I’ll try to incorporate that idea to my final project.

For my slide show entitled “laugh&love” I took a contemporary and minimalistic approach to presenting photographic pieces. I think the simple inferface is easy for the audience to learn and utilize. I think I should have added more scenes interactions between scenes to make it a bit more interesting. I did accomplish my goal of sticking to the minimal route and learning more about ActionScripts and the way each script interacts with one another while disguishing between ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0 and their incompatibility.

I loved Jennifer Moy’s “Where am I” flash scenes. They were simple yet very interactive and complex at the same time. Her interlocking of scenes was very interesting to observe, also the additional work she did by creating different interfaces to suit every audience. I feel like her use of interlacing scenes grasped the attention of the audience, and I’d like to use that for my own final.

So many Slide shows!!!

For my slide show I really didn’t know what I wanted to do at first so I started to think about cliched phrases hoping to get some kind of inspiration and then it hit me “Patterns of life” so I decided to focus on pictures with not so evident patterns. My designs where meant to be patterns in and of themselves. The circles in the beginning that were arranged in lines to form a pattern and then the stipes that flashed in the same color to form a pattern and then finally the title with the circles arranged symmertically. I see where I went wrong in my slide design however, with the movement of the circles along side the pictures which obviously took the focus away from the pictures but now I know better!

I really enjoyed Jennifer’s “Where am I” Slideshow. The way she made the pictures flip downwards using actionscript really made me sit up in my seat like “WOW! How cool and creative was that!?” Also the creative way she made thee buttons almost seem like points on a subway map and the colors she used to signify the start and the end with green and red respectively also gives it the feel of taking a trip in a car with the idea of stop lights. The beginning was also very creative and the use of alpha was very effective and ofcourse the pictures were very interesting to look at and unlike mine the background did not detract or distract from them.

My slide show presents various optical illusions. I used classic tweens and different alphas in my project. In the second scene, the pictures that I used had people, animals, and a bicycle. I tried grouping the similar subjects together. I like the moving eyes because it makes my slides how a little mysterious. I also like how I arranged the buttons into eyebrow shapes. However, my project could have used some more interaction. As Zoe suggested, I could have made some of my images into buttons that would show the answer to the optical illusion. I could have excluded the bicycle image from my slide show too, but I thought that it had a very cool illusion. Overall, I accomplished my goal of making my slide show look unconventional with the animated eyes and button eyebrows.

I really enjoy looking at Liat’s slide show. The music goes very well with her images. I like how each image blurs and then becomes clear, as well as the raindrop effects on it. I also like how the raindrops in her intro changed into letters. I believe she used shape tweens for that. The clickable images on a roll of film is a clever and creative idea too. However, I think the cursor should be changed into another symbol when it’s rolled over an image so that the user knows that the image is clickable. Sometimes it’s a little difficult to click on the image I want to see because all the other images on the film start moving too. It might be better to make the images on the film not move so fast. Overall, this slide slow is very pleasant to look at, especially with all the different effects and music! For my next project, I want to have good music for it and some cool effects.

Weekly Blogging 10 – due May 15

For this week’s blogging, provide yourself, and your classmates, some constructive feedback on your interactive slide shows.

First, leave a comment on your own slide show. Discuss what you did; what do you think works particularly well? What could use more attention? Did you accomplish the goal you set for yourself? In what ways?

Next, leave a comment on someone else’s slide show. Again, what works well? what could use more attention? What do you take away from that other slide show that you might apply in your own work?
