Bensonhurst is located in South Brooklyn, along the west end line. Traditionally known for its Italian community, the face of Bensonhurst has changed over the years. Today, there is a vibrant community of Italians, Chinese, and Pakistanis mixed throughout the neighborhood. These new cultures can be seen in the life along 86th street, one of the most well known shopping streets in Brooklyn. So too can the cultural comparisons been seen in places like parks or at the churches in the neighborhood.
wow Matt you have some really great shots here in my opinion. Good variety, your close ups and distance shots really gives the viewer a real look into Bensonhurst with details beyond just the infrastructure. A community consists of the buildings, the people and what they bring with them and i think you did a good job capturing all of this.
The opening shot is the right choice because the two trains provides for symmetry in the photo and it makes me feel like i am going on a journey into a new place.
The shot with the two Pakistani girls is also great. The lighting creates a real feel of the atmosphere and it transfers over to me!
The train station shot with the two girls is really good. The exposure is nice, and the yellow against the black adds something to the story. Also the girls are sharp and there isn’t any other blur or grain, so it was executed very well. It is interesting to see the ethnicity showing here, it says something about the diversity of the area.
That closing image isn’t bad at all, I’d have to say though it would work better as an opening image. Nice colors as well.
You have some strong, vibrant images but it really needs a tighter edit as we discussed in class. Also, I agree with Darren, your closing shot would work better as an opening and actually, the opening would be a much better closing. It definitely does not work as an opener.
