music: life. love. passion

To discover one’s own life, love, and passion is hard, but she has found it at a very young age. Her name is Annette and she is currently a senior in high school. Music has played a very big role in her life ever since she was born. Her parents had influenced her into this path. They had started to teach her how to play the piano themselves when she was young and then sent her piano school to learn professionally. Her music sense is so strong she can even play the piano at heart without having it physically in front of her. Playing the piano is not the only thing that she does musically. She writes lyrics in her free time, still collects CDs, and loves to sing! So musically driven, she is planning to continue her interests as her major in college.

Unsanitary Things.

It has come to my attention that unsanitariness is not a big issue to others, but it is definitely something that has been bothering me. Coming from a germaphobic, I may in fact be more knit picky on how sanitary things are around me, but my observations of others has certainly brought a frown and sense of disgust upon my face. It goes anywhere from people leaving their dog poop on the floor to dirty puddles that children love to jump and play in. We are all the causes of the current pollution condition: cigarette butts, gum pieces, lottery tickets, etc all littered on our very own streets. People sit on these dirty floors, homeless people are collecting these used cans and bottles- but all of these are unsanitary things that may be detrimental to our health. All of the photos taken reflect the unsanitary environment around us that we might not have noticed previously. It starts off with something small like poop, then progresses into a cart of waste. Every small problem adds up to something big. The solution to it all is to do it the right way, be clean and put our waste in its own place, where its supposed to belong.

community- chinatown

A place I’ve become so familiar with, I hadn’t even noticed all the changes in Chinatown until I started shooting there. I knew I wanted to the community but because there was so much to cover, I couldn’t seem to find a focus. It wasn’t until I decided to take a trip down there and started walking aimlessly that I discovered a trail or a route that showed me the changes in the different parts of Chinatown.

I started to notice how there was an older and rustier part as compared to the modern side. The buildings played a big role in taking me to this path. Chinatown still has a lot of old buildings but the new condominiums and newly constructed buildings definitely added a whole new mood. The types of people in the two parts were different as well. This modern aged Chinatown has attracted a lot more tourists (for fake LV and Coach bags) and people who would come down just for cheap bus rides to places like Boston, Connecticut, and Virginia. There were always tourists and other ethnic groups in Chinatown, but not for fake goods or the bus; these were things that never existed back then but  now has become a vital part of the growing economy.

environmental portraits

Victoria Cheng is her name. She believes that inner beauty is of great significance but, first impressions are like the cherry on top. Make up and fashion completes the look. She’s been into the industry for a while now. Earlier last year she enrolled to courses at Fashion Institute of Technology to learn more about fabrics, how to sew, and all the specs to completing an article of clothing. And just a few weeks ago, she got accepted to intern at PR Consulting which works with clients such as Vera Wang, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, and many more. The concept I’d like to show in this environmental portrait project is “From Nothing to Something.”
