Small Town Dancer

Movement is one of the best things to photograph, especially something as graceful as dancing. Photographer is my friend, Petey, who has been a dancer since childhood. She is from Arkansas originally, and has taken a variety of dance classes and has also taught classes, and choreographed several dances. Moving to NYC, she hopes to become a dancer of some sort, and make it big. I photographed her during one of her practice sessions where she practiced all sorts of dance to different music. In the end, she is one person who has total passion for dancing.

Clutter: A Issue of Daily Life

I decided to portray an issue of daily life that every one has- clutter. Even if one is the cleanest person alive, there is bound to be some clutter found somewhere. Most of us dont realize how much clutter we have. From lightbulbs to stuffed animals to pencils, one can find anything in clutter, especially old magazines from 2008. What year are we in? 2010…almost 2011.

Halloween on Lexington

Walking around Lexington on Friday, October 29, I found a small childrens parade going on from one of the local schools. Children were dressed in vivid costumes and looking like they were having a blast.

NYC MARATHON – 90th St and 1st Ave

Watching the NYC Marathon for a couple of hours was really interesting. It was obvious that all of the runners put a lot of effort into the marathon and were very motivated to finish. As for the fans, the same was shown from them. There was a lot of cheering and fans supporting the runners, even if they didn’t know someone who was running in the marathon. Those who knew someone made signs, and had flags. There was a variety of people watching, including people from Japan and France who proudly showed their pride. The same with the runners, a few to mention who wore shirts from their homeland were France, Australia, Italy and of course USA. It was amazing to see the whole world come together for such an exciting event.

Oyster Fest

The Oyster Fest of Oyster Bay takes place once a a year on Long Island. Its a festival where families go to spend a day. Kids can have fun on the rides, while parents can enjoy the art stands and food and beer. I went to the festival in late afternoon, so it was packed. I tried to get photos of everything that makes up a neighborhood and the festival from kids to families to students.

Places such as food stands are what make up a community, some have been there for years and its something that someone can go to for years.  Things like fun rides and pony rides are what make up a childhood. Also a community is about safety, a police officer and a bus are ideal in a community with kids and families. The event attracted people from all ages and thats how the community came together.

Faces

For the portraits assignment I carried my camera throughout the weekend and tried to take photos of people I saw. Some photos are taken at a bar where I was having dinner with some friends. Others were taken at the beach. I tried to have photographs with different expressions. Some photos were easy to take as I took them without the subject knowing, others I asked them to pose.

A Soccer Team

This collection of photos is about a ‘community’ of soccer players. I photographed my sisters soccer team. Even though there is one main team, the community involved other people than the soccer players. As part of the team there were refs who made sure the game was fair and coaches to assist the players and help score goals. There were spectators who watched, which were mostly parents. Also, players from other teams sat on the side lines and watched the game or practice kicked near the game.
