The top five principles of New Media would be that it is programmable, reused, innovated, exist in multiple versions and easily translated. Programmable media such as the use of HTML and CSS by creating websites that allows people to see what you want to provide to the world. It is a great way to show creativity of a project and anyone can program it. This allows users to personally change media into their liking. After it is programmed, most of them are reused. Lots of people will copy one another but improve on it. For example, Myspace was one of the largest social media usage compared to Facebook but they were not updating their system and continued to keep the same properties. Facebook continued to add more things into their programs such as games, texting, calling and much more. These internet traits makes people more likely to use their application rather than keeping a single social interaction through Myspace. Somethings such has including emoticons are reused around social media and technology continues to grow and include a variety of resources to use. There are several versions of a document or a game but just one or two different trait. For example, if you search up, “peanut butter sandwich recipes”, there will be multiple websites and different versions of how to make it. It can be an added ingredient, a different amount of peanut added, a change of bread and the list goes on. Users have multiple choices of what they want to read and can simple read all. Lastly, most of New Media is easily translated. A lot of the newer programs work in the same way such as how Facebook would add multiple language options and you are able to translate the foreign language right on the spot by simply clicking, “translate this”. This makes life so much easier for users and people would most likely want to use Facebook more than any other application. They even extended their website into a mobile app and separated it into Messenger. It turned into a point where people rely on Messenger to get the message around instead of texting using their own phone data.
I chose my blog topic was chosen because of the need of a club website. My club members does not know where most of the events are held and are usually misinformed with a lot of things. With this website, more members will know who we are, come to our events and try to help our club grow. I was also very inactive in this semester and would like to create something helpful or useful for the club. I thought this will be a fun project to work with and share with the rest of my club members. I chose this design for my club website because I thought it looked cool and really portrayed what gaming is like. The colors matched well with each other and the background is very light so that the fonts are easier to see. The background includes most of the games that you can find on Steam. Steam is an entertainment platform that creates and sells games for people to play.
