From the project, I saw that helping others benefits more than just one person. The people who volunteer also benefit from what they learn about themselves and from the experience. I realized that there is a lot of knowledge to pass around and that learning can always be done when one actively searches for it. As a result, I want to learn from faculty and staff who are knowledgable in their respective fields.
I have used the writing center and the Starr Center to further my aim in college. By using the Starr Center, I was able to see how one can never do too much work because finding and obtaining a career takes a lot of patience, preparation and work. I realized that I could start on my career early if given the right chances and that I could go to school with a good chance of attaining my choice job. I feel attending presentations where I am a bit young for can help me survey the work I will need to do later on. I joined the Wall Street club but the time conflicts heavily with the schedule.
The info sessions such as the Wall Street Panel Presentation were helpful in that the learning was different from that of reading a website or book. While a lot of what I hear I know already, there is always something extra that I can possibly gain. It seems that knowing more cannot hurt when it is about something very important to me.
I understand how community service can be another tool for a person who wants to help others and to help themselves. Understanding can be achieved on an individual level when one is able to help others without putting themselves first. When one learns more about their interests, their strengths and characteristics, they only grow as better people.
