Journal #3

As this semester comes to an end, I look back and reflect upon how I grew throughout this semester. I believe that the Freshman Seminar class helped me develop various skills that will assist me as I proceed throughout my college experience. When I first started college, like most people, I felt like a tourist in a foreign country- no direction, no idea where anything is or how to do it. Being part of the Baruch Scholars society provided me with an opportunity to acclimate into the college environment. The program provided us with the FRO class. My first reaction to this class was like most people- ‘A class with no credits? For what purpose?’ However, now as I reflect I realize how much this class assisted me this semester and will continue to assist me in the future. The Freshman Seminar class showed us various resources that we can use as aids throughout our college experience. These resources include the Writing Center, the STARR program, and even information on how to take advantage of the library’s resources. In addition, the program provided us with mentors to guide our decisions.
The community service project helped us as a group reach out to these resources for help. Using the library’s website to search for organizations. And so on.
All of these resources can assist me with other projects in the future. In a way it can be compared to an HOV Lane. These resources will help me complete various projects quicker and more efficiently. I am very thankful to the Freshman Seminar class in providing me these tools to assist me as I progress through college.
