The definition of Bioethics in a straight and more commonly manner would be the study and research of biology and medicine through human morals and ethics. However, what is the significance of bioethics to our society? The levels and standards of technology continue to rise and advance, therefore its influence and effect towards the human society cannot be ignored. The whole purpose of establishing the field of bioethics in my eyes is of course to benefit the human race, but the question is: is it really benefiting us?
The UNESCO had the same concern when they adopted the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. I agree on the points on “reflecting on the rapid developments in scienceand technology, which increasingly affect our understanding of life and life itself”. I understand that technology is available and advancing to make our life easier, but we cannot fall so deep into it to a point where we lose the true meaning of life itself. Issues such as cloning of humans, and artificial birth are examples of humans losing track of the term ‘natural’. It needs to be realized that by discovering so many ways of scientifically forming a new way of life or a new way to live, we are destroying the natural equilibrium and the current balance. Long term negative effects may arise such as deficiency of resources or more. There was a reason why the Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection was proposed. Life and death should be dependent on nature not technology. Therefore the concepts Bioethics( study of human body through human morals and ethics) does at some points provoke controversies in the human race, so I believe when a set of guidelines and restrictions are necessary to help control the balance of nature and prevent any long term disruptions for future generations.
