Digital Component

Since my reattach topic deals with how hospital television shows, portrait a fictional and unethical medical community as compared to what the real life medical community consists of, I’m considering creating some sort of film lens that will exposure the false ideas and actions that the makers of these hospital shows are putting in these television series. This lens will allow the everyday person to erase false interpretations about the medical community they have as a result of these hospital television shows.

I envision it to look like a large square lens that will fit over a television screen or a projection monitor. The edges will be about a 2 inches wide by 2 inches long, be a solid color and have some sort of hooks on the back that will let it be able the attach to what it needs to attach to. The part of the lens that will be over the screen will be transparent and will be tinted with some sort of color. The lens will have a spectrum of colors that it will change the scene on the television to depending on what is occurring. For example a scene that promotes false ethics through the mistreatment of a patient might become a reddish tint and a scene that shows a doctor acting in a way that gives the views a wrong impression of doctors might turn a greenish tint. The presents of these tinted scene as a result of the lens will make viewers conscious of what the television show makers are putting in their episodes.

This is only a rough idea of my Digital component, there is a lot more that needs to be drawn up for it and expanded for how it works.

Digital Object

I think asking people around the Barclay Center is a genius way to support the paper i’m writing on. I think walking up to strangers and having a conversation with them about the negative effects of the newly built stadium in their neighborhood is out of my comfort zone. In a way i’m kind of glad i’ll have a chance to do something i’m uncomfortable with but in the same sense its something im not really comfortable doing so you can see how i wouldnt favor it. But i think it’s something I have to do.

Digital Project Proposal

During this break I found myself watching Spider-man and coming to realize I wanted to write my paper on genetic enhancing. I believe that most people would agree when I say that after watching a super hero in action on a movie screen at the end we come out wanting to be them. Peter Parker was bit by a genetically enhanced spider therefore his genes then transformed and became amazing. He got back perfect vision, enhanced senses, had immense strength, and could shoot webs out of his wrists. If there was such a program that could enhance my genes I would sign up in a heartbeat. However, what is shown in Spider-man is not reality. I come to realize through different articles and analyses by professors that genetic enhancement is not that simple not only on a scientific level but generally speaking. I plan to speak to you, Professor Kaufman to see if this idea is valid for the research paper. And if it is my digital component would either be a video or a 3D printing.

I was thinking of comparing how people who want their genes enhanced view their lives in comparison with for example Peter Parker’s life. And then switching it showing how it would be if reality took over the movie and then comparing that to the normal human’s life. I wanted to use actual Spider-man scenes to do this but I’m still not sure if it’s possible.

For the 3D printing I was just thinking of maybe doing half of Spider-man’s masked face and the other half sort of like genes in the shape of a human face with tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, and power tools in the midst of them.

Both of these ideas to me seem a little ambitious because I’m not talented but hopefully I can make it work if the ideas are valid.Thank you!

Digital Project idea

For my digital essay, i was focusing more towards the impact of Hurricane Sandy on correlation to the news. I plan to write along the lines of how the international news over exaggerates and blows matters out of proportion posting headlines such as “NYC under water” meanwhile although things got pretty bad, that headlines was definitely not the case. Also want to mention its influence on the international public which due the news causes them to react dramatically.

Im not very sure as to what im thinking on doing for the digital project as of yet. Since im not very artsy or creative i guess im leaning more to the video. The video may consist of a news reporter taking a matter and being excessively dramatic along with somehow portraying the comparison reactions of people from America and foreigners.

Chimpanzee Heart

Where to even begin? I am seriously quite frustrated with myself in the fact that I can’t come up with a solid idea for a digital compliment to my research paper. I’m specifically writing about chimpanzee heart xenotransplantation-something I find incredibly controversial and interesting! So it seems like it wouldn’t be that difficult to come up with a kick ass project idea, and yet….nada.

My plan so far(really hoping I come up with something more comical/entertaining) is to create a video that compares chimpanzees with humans to really make it evident just how similar the two really are. I’m hoping it aids from an emotional standpoint to really concrete my thesis, which will be something along the lines of, “It’s not okay to kill off an endangered species just to help us live a little longer, especially one almost as intelligent/similar to us!”

But seriously-if anybody has any ideas as to how I could make this at all less sleep-jerk inducing let me know. Much appreciated 🙂

digital project woes

For this digital project, Im not entirely sure what i want to do. i know i want to make a video. Since my paper is going to be about dolphins, i was thinking that i could make a video of dolphins talking about how they feel about how they are being treated. i would set up an interview style video with two dolphins talking to eachother and both would be wearing dolphin masks.

Im slightly worried about this paper. Actually really worried about this paper. i know im writng about sea world and how they get their dolphins and if they changed their ways from buying from the fisherman who acquired the dolphins in the worst way possible. but im not sure what my thesis statement is or how im going to convey that in my video.

Professor Kaufman comes up with good ideas!

Even though I really wanted to make a 3D object, I think I’ll just steal professor Kaufman’s idea and dub over a television commercial like this one: The WTF Blanket (Snuggie Parody) I must admit, I do own a Snuggie (it was a gift) but my dubbed commercial idea won’t be to ridicule some weird medicinal commercial or children’s toy. When I figure how to work iMovie, it will be to expose the hidden “subliminal” messages of the ad.

Since I am hoping to focus my project on commercial advertising and their influence on society (without using the word society), dubbing over a commercial would be the best choice. I’m not sure what 3D model I would be able to make instead of doing a video. I could make a model of a television but that’s too plain, and it would take too long to make a model of a family being brainwashed by their television.

So, going with Kaufman’s idea, I’ll just find a really funny commercial geared to either young, maleable children, or elderly people with a ton of problems. SO… let me know what you think while you enjoy these inspirational videos!!!

Mighty Putty and Sticky Buddy

Digital media project

My topic for the research project is going to be the enhancement of humans but technological means and the different reactions people have based on their uses. Specifically this will involve the topics of steroids and the use of adderol. I’m sure tterr are multitudes of different video presentations that I could do to portray this kind of topic but none I can think of that are not overly complicated and just plain boring so I will be opting for the 3d printing option.

I was thinking about something along the lines of a fully functioning syringe wil some sort of pill inside of it. I was looking at the websites for the printing and I see no reason why this kind of thing wouldnt work. It may be a little complicated to actually make the syringe work but I think it’s doable.

Digital Project Proposal

For my research paper I plan to be doing something relating to media bias. In particular, how today’s 24/7 media culture effects and influences our views on issues. To do this effectively I plan on comparing and contrasting cable networks like Fox News, CNN and MSNBC as well as discussing how the involved parties now have greater control of their own messages thanks to sites like Twitter (as the Obama and Romney campaigns did during the most recent Presidential election and Israel and Hamas in the most recent Gaza conflict).

For the digital part of this project I’m torn between doing a video or a 3D object. For the video side I’m leaning toward a “mashup” of clips featuring of Fox and MSNBC on an issue, mixed in with some commentary from a third source like the Colbert Report and The Daily Show. I also may have clips of online text articles in the clip to show the “truth side.”

As I am not a skilled video editor, and the fact that I am not so sure I have the proper computer and tools to undertake such an ambitious project (I have a Windows PC which is great at a lot of things but not as good as the Mac for video editing), I am also considering doing a 3D print out of a microphone. On the back of this mic would be the logos of MSNBC, Fox and CNN, with the word “TRUTH” on the front. The top of the mic (the big circular area) would be something like a globe, to symbolize that this is a global issue. I would accompany this with a PowerPoint explaining how I created this and why (possibly with some clips interspersed as well).

Still unsure which direction I will go in, but this is where my head is right now.

Digital Media Project

My topic is cloning for the purpose of extending human life. For the Digital media project, i would like to make a video. In this video i will have someone with “tattooed” lines all over his face (incision lines), being interviewed on who he is. He will reveal his life in a “cloning factory” were he was taught to live a lie, and that his purpose was to give his organs to humans. He will also reveal that they were taught that they are worth less than humans. He will describe the factory living conditions, and how it at first looked like a prestigious school  for these clones, and that the organ removal was a privilege to serve the community.

This would serve the purpose of showing a dystopian future that could be a possible outcome of cloning humans. this is of course based off the paper thesis which would argue against cloning of Humans.
