I think asking people around the Barclay Center is a genius way to support the paper i’m writing on. I think walking up to strangers and having a conversation with them about the negative effects of the newly built stadium in their neighborhood is out of my comfort zone. In a way i’m kind of glad i’ll have a chance to do something i’m uncomfortable with but in the same sense its something im not really comfortable doing so you can see how i wouldnt favor it. But i think it’s something I have to do.
My College dilemma
I think the fact that im typing this late shows how much im struggling with college right now. The next week alone there are so many assignments and so much work i have to do im strongly considering dropping a class just so i can get this essay done. I have a general idea of what i want to write about but im still trying to finish the book. Theres just so much on my plate right now im not exactly sure how ill get it all done. I thinking dropping my science class would give me enough time in the morning to get sleep and to start working on my english paper. Im not dure how im going to structure it but i feel like having more time andbless work would help me sort out howill get this paper done.
Road to the World Cup
Yesterday was the last game of the CONCACAF ( North America) World Cup qualifying semi finals. The US mens team, unsurprisingly, had left it to their last game to really see if they would qualify for the final round which would then determine which North American teams would go to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. What made the game even more crucial was that many of the veteran and regulars of the US national team had faced injuries forcing Jurgen Klinsmann, the head coach, to bring in new faces and use a different formation.
While everyone was excited and grateful the US had pulled out the results they needed, questions were still raised on how well our back four can communicate and how well these new faces will impact the return of the other regulars. A problem the US team has always faced was finding a regular left back who can play the side well. And it always seems when a replacement is found they are injured or unfit and that has weakened our defense incredibly.
Also the number of players currently injured has created a stir when trying to replace them. Landon Donovan, the goal scorer in the famous game against Algeria in the World Cup, has suffered countless injuries this year. It almost makes you question how much longer the 30 year old can still play for the national team and whether hell make it to the next World Cup. I firmly believe Landon is one of the creative hubs of the national team and losing him would be a big blow for the team, but his future may be uncertain.
Henrietta Lacks
The story of Henrietta Lacks is a great example of bio medical issues raised through text. The fact that her cells were taken and used without her knowledge alone is illegal and should be examined as an immoral action. She had no knowledge of the procedure and that alone raises the fact that her human rights were violated. Her cells were later sold by the billions and while they might help scientific advancement, it was initially wrong to take away her cells.
Although people may have received help from her cells, her rights were violated and that cant be overshadowed by the fact part of her was stolen. The billion dollar organization that took her cells also didnt give Henrietta Lacks’s family any money in return for the use of their mothers cells. It went from a bio ethical issue to a business ethics issue.
Blog post #2
I don’t believe the transplanation team should go ahead with the experiment. To end the life on an endangered species to possibly save the life of another human being is selfish and could prove to be a waste if that human being cant find a replacement heart. This issue also raises the issue of if we value ourselves as more important than all other animals, including endangered ones. Can we comfortably make the decision of ending another animals life that rarely reproduces and has a population in the mere thousands, just to potentially stall long enough to save a human being?
I respect human life and feel all the money and research going into the chimpanzee operations should be applied in finding a new method of replicating a human heart. I don’t think its right to throw away a life of another animal just for 11 weeks of a human life. I don’t feel both are equivalent in anyway, we should respect other life on this planet because we aren’t much different from them. We may be more intelligent but clearly don’t value nor respect the lives of other living creatures.
What is Bioethics
Bioethics is the reflection of issues in medicine, life sciences and health policy. It is also the decision making whether a procedure or advancement should be allowed or not. Bioethics are influential in everyday life, from questioning whether abortion is legal, to if the surgery you require is morally right to perform. Bioethics regard everyone and everything and gives them rights medically speaking.
The General Conference of UNESCO has written and published a text regarding the ethics of certain procedures in “medicine, life sciences and associated technologies” that describe a set of rules and situations that are meant to preserve life in general. The rules they created are centered in helping humans by giving them medical rights, including everyone being equal. It generally states how medical issues should be handled and what is ethically correct when regarding another person.
