Digital Component
Since my reattach topic deals with how hospital television shows, portrait a fictional and unethical medical community as compared to what the real life medical community consists of, I’m considering creating some sort of film lens that will exposure the false ideas and actions that the makers of these hospital shows are putting in these television series. This lens will allow the everyday person to erase false interpretations about the medical community they have as a result of these hospital television shows.
I envision it to look like a large square lens that will fit over a television screen or a projection monitor. The edges will be about a 2 inches wide by 2 inches long, be a solid color and have some sort of hooks on the back that will let it be able the attach to what it needs to attach to. The part of the lens that will be over the screen will be transparent and will be tinted with some sort of color. The lens will have a spectrum of colors that it will change the scene on the television to depending on what is occurring. For example a scene that promotes false ethics through the mistreatment of a patient might become a reddish tint and a scene that shows a doctor acting in a way that gives the views a wrong impression of doctors might turn a greenish tint. The presents of these tinted scene as a result of the lens will make viewers conscious of what the television show makers are putting in their episodes.
This is only a rough idea of my Digital component, there is a lot more that needs to be drawn up for it and expanded for how it works.
Etgar Keret, Colm Toibin and Creatively
In finding a logical way to compare these writers I look to their styles of writing, Etgar wrote Fictional stories while Colm wrote the Novel “Brooklyn” based on a story that actually took place. When Etgar was asked a question by a student during the Q & A session of his speaking about a story the student had thought he written his answer lead him to explain to us that “he doesn’t know how to write about real life experiences in his live”. After hearing Etgar say this I quickly inferred that Etgar liked to use his imagination and creatively in his stories. While on the other hand Colm choose to write a much less fictional story when he base his writing off a true story that he had heard as a child. By seeing the different styles of writing choosing by these authors I can give reason to the different levels interest i had in them when they spoke.
As many would agree, listening to Etgar was a lot more enjoyable and interesting then to hear Colm speak. Etgar’s way of speaking reflected his writing for the most part. A sufficient word that describes how he spoke is the word colorful. His speaking was colorful because of the humor which at times was inappropriate and the way he brought a personality to his speaking. His “colorful” way of speaking can directly be connected to his fictional way of writing in the sense that he is a very creative person which is more interesting to the individual then something that is redundant or bland. We as a culture embrace creatively because it interests us. The lack of creatively in both Colm speaking to us and his book is the reason why I did not enjoy either. Colm speech was hard to pay attention to because it was just like his book in the sense that he focused a lot on unimportant detail in a very bland way. Not to take away from Colm as a writer because I am sure there are many people that enjoyed his novel and would love to hear him talk but for me I would much rather read and listen to an author with creatively and who has a colorful voice like Etgar Keret.
Writing-Brainstorming process
I must start by saying that the writing process this time around was a lot easier for me. Easier because I had a better idea what the writing prices was. In class on thursday, we used a writing-brainstorming activity to further explore our thesis. To be honest in, I felt that the process was pointless and just more work then i needed to do but as I started writing I started thinking and one idea brought me to next. Although I didn’t have a thesis by the end of the activity, it still helped me out in my aim of what I wanted me thesis to be. Over the weekend when I sat down to start my essay, I was stumped on what to write about so I opened up a blank word document and started writing just as we did in class on Thursday. Through this brainstorming process not only did I developed my thesis but I had wrote a big chunk of my introduction paragraph. In conclusion the writing-brainstorming technique was quiet helpful in developing the idea of my essay and I will further use it for future writing assignments to come.
What I am worried about? Im more confident about this paper then any other paper i have written, so its hard to say what I’m worried about. In this paper i actually have a thesis statement, not just something I call a thesis statement which makes me confident in the overall idea of the paper. I used a lot of quotes in this paper and analized them compared to just referring to them briefly or summarizing them, which has been a pervious problem of mine. I am confident about my paper, so I guess that what I’m worried about the most is if I’m right, that this paper is actually well developed and answered the prompt given.
Ultra Music Festival Adds Another Weekend
One of the most famous electronic dance music festivals in world, which takes place in Miami during Miami music week in March has just added another weekend. This is huge news to electronic music fans. Ultra, the record label who produces this music festival kept the second weekend a secret until they released the news on their website a view days ago. The additional weekend will take place on March 15,16 and 17 and the original weekend will span from March 22 to the 24th. This is exciting for music fans everywhere but has some electronic dance music lovers annoyed.
Adding another weekend has people annoyed because they feel as if adding another weekend will take away from the music festival which has traditionally been one weekend for the past 10 years. People are wondering if artists will be performing on both weekends or just one. Taking into account that Ultra tickets are released before the release of the artist lineup people are nervous in buying tickets for a weekend that might not have as good artist as the other one.
Ultra’s release of another weekend for their hit music festival is big news for the movement of electronic dance music as well as big news for its fans. Check out this to give you a better idea of Ultra Music Festival:
A Fan of Skloot’s Novel
At the Barnes & Nobles counter I was not thrilled with spending $16 on a book called “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. I didn’t want to spend my money on a book that I wouldn’t read. However after just the first few pages on the book, I found my self quite interested, amazed by myself that i was not only reading but actually enjoying the reading. Rebecca Skloot’s way of telling the story of both an interesting topic in science and the story of Henrietta Lacks keeps me entertained. Throughout the first few chapters she constantly hops back between the story of Henrietta’s life and the topic of her cells making a significance contribution to science, which keeps me from getting bored of the reading.
Overall im truly excited for the rest of the book. Taking into account how long the book is, I’m interested on how Skloot will use this much length to describe the story of Henrietta Lacks and Hela, which are her immortal cells. Knowing that the death of Henrietta is approaching in the book, my guess is that the majority of the book will talk about Hela, which I’m excited to hear more about. My interest in Hela come from the fact that it is an interesting topic and that Hela is a very controversial topic. I have a feeling that Rebecca Skloot will not disappoint me and continue to have me interested as I read “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”.
Rough Draft Process
The rough draft process was extremely helpful. The most helpful part about it to me was the peer editing process. Through the peer editing process I was able to realize the faults in my essay and see the essays of my of peers, which laid out a format of what my essay should model. Not to forget that without the rough draft process I would have wrote an essay on the wrong essay topic.
After I had seen the essays’ of my peers the revision process became a lot easier to me because I had more of an Idea of what I should prove in my essay as well as what techniques i should use to prove it. As a result of choosing the wrong essay topic, my revision process was a rewrite of my essay. Choosing the thesis, quotes and examples to my rewritten essay was simple for me, where I struggled was incorporating the right amount of anaylsis needed to prove my points. I also had a difficult time with the conclusion process. In my last rewrite I did not write a conclusion but I plan on writing the conclusion once the body of my essay is completely edited, in order to write a correct and relevant conclusion.
Have starting my revision process of my rewritten essay and meeting with Professor Kaufman, I’m excited to work on the parts of my essay that need improvement. After the tips that my peers and Professor Kaufman have given me I know what I need to fix and add in order to prove my thesis and write a fully developed essay.
Thats messed up.
This article disgusts me. I understand that it is only in good intentions to consider putting a chimpanzees heart into a human being, but that is wrong. Putting an animals heart into a humans is defying the laws of nature. Although some may argue that we are all animals, is still doesn’t make it right to put the heart of a chimpanzee into a human. If you turn the tables, think about if a article was published saying that human hearts were being transplanted into chimps, what would you say? I believe that you, as well as most people would say that is completely wrong, so why does it make it right to put chimpanzees hearts into humans?
So now lets think about the hypothetical scenario of what would happen if chimpanzee hearts started to be used as a “bridge” for a human heart transplant. If chimpanzee hearts became of demand in the international medical field that would mean that chimpanzee would start to be harvested for their hearts. So would chimpanzees be raised in farms just to be killed for there hearts only to keep a human being alive for just a few months? Now what if a black market for chimpanzees’ hearts arose with the supply of chimp hearts coming from illegal hunting and capturing of chimpanzees. This could not only endanger the chimpanzee population but it cause a direct conflict between animal rights advocates and the world of medicine.
These hypothetical questions as well as the turning the tables in the the first paragraph all highlight why this blog post is titled “thats messed up”.
The importance of Bioethics
First before defining the term bioethics, I must highlight the importance of bioethics to our culture today. Its importance is reflected in different parts of our society such as healthcare, research and our society in general. Bioethics in healthcare brought about awareness to health workers of the medical practice as well as enriching the ability of health workers to further understand the patient as a person. Highlighting the ethical side of bioethics, health workers were now able to follow an ethical code when working with patients which was once a problem. Ethical problems had a clear connection to problems in health care, so by the emergence of bioethics, the healthcare of our country has been siginificantly improved.
Now to define the term of bioethics, bio meaning life and ethics meaning a way of acting we can come to the conclusion that bioethics deals with the combination of the natural laws of life and the set ethics of how one should live their life. Bioethics is a study of philosophy as well as a study of biology.
