Advertising Gone Wrong…

For my digital project, I decided to dub over some recent toy commercials to expose the world of advertising. I portrayed both of the toys featured as being plan and boring and unnecessary in life. Both of the toys, Test Tube Aliens and the revamped Furby have no point to their creation and do not benefit children in any way. Their advertisements persuade people to go and buy them by showing the excitement children have while playing with them and the fun tricks they can do but in a digital age, nobody wants to watch some weird alien thing grow or play with a creepy Furby.

Advertising Gone Wrong

Featured actor: My puppy- NomNom

My process:

My first idea for my video was going to be an interview style video between a horse talk show host and a dolphin guest. These would be people with masks on. I went to two costume shops and they didn’t have dolphin masks. One did a horse mask though. (which i did buy) But then I needed a new idea for my video. So Karolina found a dolphin fin at one of the stores and I came up with my idea then. I was going to put the dolphin fin on my puppy and he would be my dolphin actor. This worked out very well. My puppy didn’t mind the dolphin fin much. But he did not like being in a cage. My family doesn’t usually keep him in there so he was kinda upset. But when he was outside, he was happy, even though it was raining and he had a dolphin fin on him. Overall, my video did portray what I wanted, which was the difference between captured animals and free/wild animals.

My PowerPoint For The Digital Project

Here it is, the PowerPoint portion of my Digital Project. Steven Blumenthal Digital Project Powerpoint (link for download– our WordPress doesn’t let you display the PowerPoint on the blog itself, but any one who clicks that link can download my PowerPoint).

Here is an online video version of the slides, though the transitions and animations don’t seem to carry over from the PowerPoint: Steven Blumenthal YouTube Digital Project

For some reason the YouTube video above also is just displaying as a link to YouTube. I’m not sure if this is a limitation of the blog (like if they don’t want people embedding videos onto these sites), but if anyone knows how to insert a YouTube video into a post on Blogs at Baruch please let me know.

Digital Component

Since my reattach topic deals with how hospital television shows, portrait a fictional and unethical medical community as compared to what the real life medical community consists of, I’m considering creating some sort of film lens that will exposure the false ideas and actions that the makers of these hospital shows are putting in these television series. This lens will allow the everyday person to erase false interpretations about the medical community they have as a result of these hospital television shows.

I envision it to look like a large square lens that will fit over a television screen or a projection monitor. The edges will be about a 2 inches wide by 2 inches long, be a solid color and have some sort of hooks on the back that will let it be able the attach to what it needs to attach to. The part of the lens that will be over the screen will be transparent and will be tinted with some sort of color. The lens will have a spectrum of colors that it will change the scene on the television to depending on what is occurring. For example a scene that promotes false ethics through the mistreatment of a patient might become a reddish tint and a scene that shows a doctor acting in a way that gives the views a wrong impression of doctors might turn a greenish tint. The presents of these tinted scene as a result of the lens will make viewers conscious of what the television show makers are putting in their episodes.

This is only a rough idea of my Digital component, there is a lot more that needs to be drawn up for it and expanded for how it works.

Digital Object

I think asking people around the Barclay Center is a genius way to support the paper i’m writing on. I think walking up to strangers and having a conversation with them about the negative effects of the newly built stadium in their neighborhood is out of my comfort zone. In a way i’m kind of glad i’ll have a chance to do something i’m uncomfortable with but in the same sense its something im not really comfortable doing so you can see how i wouldnt favor it. But i think it’s something I have to do.

Digital Project Proposal

During this break I found myself watching Spider-man and coming to realize I wanted to write my paper on genetic enhancing. I believe that most people would agree when I say that after watching a super hero in action on a movie screen at the end we come out wanting to be them. Peter Parker was bit by a genetically enhanced spider therefore his genes then transformed and became amazing. He got back perfect vision, enhanced senses, had immense strength, and could shoot webs out of his wrists. If there was such a program that could enhance my genes I would sign up in a heartbeat. However, what is shown in Spider-man is not reality. I come to realize through different articles and analyses by professors that genetic enhancement is not that simple not only on a scientific level but generally speaking. I plan to speak to you, Professor Kaufman to see if this idea is valid for the research paper. And if it is my digital component would either be a video or a 3D printing.

I was thinking of comparing how people who want their genes enhanced view their lives in comparison with for example Peter Parker’s life. And then switching it showing how it would be if reality took over the movie and then comparing that to the normal human’s life. I wanted to use actual Spider-man scenes to do this but I’m still not sure if it’s possible.

For the 3D printing I was just thinking of maybe doing half of Spider-man’s masked face and the other half sort of like genes in the shape of a human face with tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, and power tools in the midst of them.

Both of these ideas to me seem a little ambitious because I’m not talented but hopefully I can make it work if the ideas are valid.Thank you!

Digital Project idea

For my digital essay, i was focusing more towards the impact of Hurricane Sandy on correlation to the news. I plan to write along the lines of how the international news over exaggerates and blows matters out of proportion posting headlines such as “NYC under water” meanwhile although things got pretty bad, that headlines was definitely not the case. Also want to mention its influence on the international public which due the news causes them to react dramatically.

Im not very sure as to what im thinking on doing for the digital project as of yet. Since im not very artsy or creative i guess im leaning more to the video. The video may consist of a news reporter taking a matter and being excessively dramatic along with somehow portraying the comparison reactions of people from America and foreigners.

Chimpanzee Heart

Where to even begin? I am seriously quite frustrated with myself in the fact that I can’t come up with a solid idea for a digital compliment to my research paper. I’m specifically writing about chimpanzee heart xenotransplantation-something I find incredibly controversial and interesting! So it seems like it wouldn’t be that difficult to come up with a kick ass project idea, and yet….nada.

My plan so far(really hoping I come up with something more comical/entertaining) is to create a video that compares chimpanzees with humans to really make it evident just how similar the two really are. I’m hoping it aids from an emotional standpoint to really concrete my thesis, which will be something along the lines of, “It’s not okay to kill off an endangered species just to help us live a little longer, especially one almost as intelligent/similar to us!”

But seriously-if anybody has any ideas as to how I could make this at all less sleep-jerk inducing let me know. Much appreciated 🙂
