Working while black:

The Loc and natural hair discrimination.

Employment discrimination based on hair. Black women feels as if they have to conform to fit in, to survive, to be able to work comfortably. On September, 15, a federal court ruled that it is completely okay for employers to deny job positions to anyone with dreadlocks in their hair. This decision was based on the assumption that anything out of the norm is messy and distracting in the workplace. A hairstyle that is culturally affiliated with the black/ African american communities, is now a reason to be denied a job. Skills and talents and the ability to perform a job well and thoroughly should be the only reason as to why someone can be granted a job or be denied a job.

Black women have always been told to conform. They’re are to adhere to the current beauty standards and should they deviate from that, they can even be denied a job position that they are qualified for.Anything that black women do could potentially cause them a career or career advancement if they are even considered for one.
