I thought overall this reading was very interesting. I wondered if McLuhan during his time was ridiculed or thought to be crazy when he wrote things like this. He was definitely ahead of his time in terms of ideas and understanding media. The passage I found most interesting was where he described how “YOU” are changed by media and he basically described Facebook with his statement “big gossip column that is unforgiving, unforgetful, and from which there is no redemption.” It’s crazy to read this excerpt and analyze how far and fast media has moved. I wonder if any recent writings have pondered what the future of media will be.
