Before the breakthrough

October 22nd, 2013 by ms159021

Breaking Bad is now considered one of the most well known dramas in television history. With huge audience and hype leading up to the recent series finale, it’s hard to to remember a time when this show wasn’t on top.  Although this article was written in 2011, it gives a bit of insight into the making of the show. It talks about changes and how it has progressed into a “revolutionary take on serial drama.”

Characters are realer than we think

October 22nd, 2013 by ms159021

When we watch a show on T.V., we develop feelings for the character, not the actor.  We’re usually empathetic with a protagonist although the character may be nothing like the actual actor or actress.  Anna Gunn plays Skylar White in Breaking Bad.  To some, Skylar is seen as an antagonist, which means a majority of the audience doesn’t like her.  There are always those super fans that take their hatred a little too far.  Gunn was surprised when she found out about the way some people feel about her because of a role she played.

A Clear Ending to a Mysterious Beginning

October 22nd, 2013 by ao162232

“Breaking Bad” came to an end a couple weeks ago. on a somewhat uplifting note. While I wont give too much away, Walter White went on a revenge seeking rampage, covering all the bases. The Finale circled back to Gretchen and Elliot Schwartz, Walter’s former partners at Grey Matter. He broke in to their home and he came with a vengeance. The show didn’t give an in depth explanation as to why Walt was so hostile towards the Schwartz, but it was briefly mentioned that Walt felt like they cheated him of his share of the company. However, the Schwartz claim that it was Walt who left them stranded.

This series tracked  Walter White’s transformation from high school science teacher to a criminal mastermind but why such a talented chemist might have turned his back on fame and fortune still remains a mystery.

Baruch Loves Breaking Bad!

October 22nd, 2013 by mr153683

The final episode in the “Breaking Bad” series achieved an enormous amount of 10.3 million viewers. The finale was able to get this shockingly high amount, despite the ferocious competition from other channels that same night. In Bill Carter’s article, “More Than 10 Million Watch Finale of ‘Breaking Bad’,” it is clear that more than half of the series’ viewers fall in the 18-30 years old range. Carter states, “A total of 4.4 million viewers watched, with 2.7 million in the 18-to-30 group, eclipsing the drama competition on CBS and ABC at that hour.” Baruch’s The Ticker even wrote several articles raving about it. “Breaking Bad” attracted viewers of all ages, but mostly college students. Although the series is unfortunately over, it’s great to see the huge impact it made on society, especially Baruch students.
