Reading is an integral part to becoming an entrepreneur. There is so much to learn on the journey to entrepreneurship. Whether you are reading a how-to book, a motivational self-help book, or a novel that just inspires you to do better, some form of reading is always fundamental in entrepreneurial growth. Here are three books that I listed in today’s good reads lisiticle:
the War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield
This book is extremely straightforward. Maybe even a little too forward for some readers. When I first read this self-helpbook, that is written in novel format, I was taken back by how direct the author was. It was as if he was standing in front of you and just letting you have it.
the War of Art is about putting aside any and all excuses you may have convinced yourself of to deter you from fulfilling your life’s purpose. Whether you are aspiring to be an athlete, writer or entrepreneur; this book is a must read. Pressfield’s straightforward tone and personal life failures are just what any procrastinating, doubtful, person needs, in order to give them that boost to say “no more excuses, I’m going to get started today.”
Favorite quote: “if you’re paralyzed with fear, it’s a good sign. It shows you what you have to do.” –Pressfield
The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes
What is The Secret? Everyone was asking this very question when Oprah introduced the world to its contributors. Author Rhonda Byrnes have done something completely amazing when she put this “tool” together.
Focusing on the “law of attraction,” which so many successful entrepreneurs live by, The Secret engages you into truly believing in yourself and your abilities. Anyone on a journey to finding their niche could appreciate this book. The Secret is filled with proverbs, inspiration, and passion. Whether you read it in book form or listen to the audio, you will immediately begin to feel inspired.
All of The Secret’s contributors are successful individuals in different fields. This book have taken their careers to the next level and they themselves have become more inspired just by the completion of the project. Lisa Nichols stated during one of her interviews that when she was approached to join the project as a contributor that she had no idea as to what she would actually offer. Since the success of the self-help phenomenon, she is now being booked all over the world for speaking engagements.
Favorite quote: “Decide what you want to be, do, and have, think the thoughts of it, emit the frequency, and your vision will become your life.” –Dr. Joe Vitale
The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo
Actor Will Smith is responsible for putting this book’s popularity. During an interview, he mentioned the novel and explained how it has helped him in realizing his own aspirations, and of course everyone was interested in knowing more. An inspiring novel that allows to travel on a journey with it’s central character Santiago. An Andalusian shepherd boy who is determined to find a treasure in the pyramids. Along the way he meets some very interesting personalities that helps him to realize that what is he is searching for he already possess.
Like most entrepreneurs or visionaries, we all seek to find that thing we assume we are missing. So we invest in coaches, mentors, and consultants. Only to later find that that very thing we were searching for we already have. The Alchemist is a very good example of how not to get in your own way. You must dig deep in yourself, rather than look for outside validation from those you deem as experts in their respected fields. A quote I’m learning to live by, “realize you are you, accept you and be your true self.”
Favorite quote: “Because there is a force that wants you to realize your Personal Legend; it whets your appetite with a taste of success.” –Coehlo
