I was wondering what I wanted to major in during my high school years once I graduated. Finding an interest and looking more toward my future career was challenging. All my intended jobs have changed from wanting to be a coach to a YouTuber to a streamer. Based on my interests, there was only basketball and playing video games. I couldn’t settle on anything that stuck with me. Though, I decided to major in Finance at Baruch College in my Junior year of High School because I took economics, finance, and entrepreneurship classes. This brought enlightenment and became an interest as I have a good skill set to problem-solve and analyze data. Participating in a stocks game during my Senior year stood out the most. I got to analyze accurate data from actual companies, though using fake money to invest in companies. This simulation gave me the experience of what it would be like to participate in finance and allowed me to decide how to use my money to gain more. Although it was difficult, I watched videos to see what I should be looking for when analyzing the market and when I should be buying and selling. It also made me realize how it was similar to a strategic game. You must take the data you have to analyze and solve it strategically for a successful result. Viewing this as a game brought enjoyment, and like in every game, I wanted to get better at it.
In the future, I want to improve and expand my financial knowledge and know what more opportunities hold for me based on my skills. As a college student, I have responsibilities in deciding how to spend, save and invest my money. Finance will benefit me as a student and towards my adulthood. I’d like to learn more about managing my finances or a potential business responsibly during my years at Baruch College and in my own time.
