The subject area that I choose is Advertising. First, and the most important, it’s because advertising is my major, of course I want to know more about it. Haha! Second, it’s because I have great passion on advertising! Therefore, I want to learn more about how 3D printing can be widely used in the adverting world in the future, and even become a new media after newspaper, TV and Internet.
The biggest advantage of 3D printing are high customization, low cost, and in real-time. In the advertising industry, every company want to grab people’s attention as much and fast as possible. High customization gives company to build up their brand as unique as possible. Cheaper price lowers the barrier for small business owners to enter the advertising world, and also gives big companies more chance to produce more brilliant ads. In real-time shortens the advertising production time and more innovative ideas become possible.
Looking beyond that, 3D printing can capture the imagination of people and helps advertising to achieve a new smart level that never been reach before. If successfully using 3D printing in advertising campaign, it can bring the brand to live, give joy and fun to customers. For example, Coca-Cola invites people to its custom-made 3D printing lab, where the soda giant scans the visitors and gives them 3D-printed “mini me” versions of themselves and makes it in the new ad to promote the launch of its new “mini” bottles in Israel. Another example, in a campaign called “Remember Loft?”, Loft creates software that allows consumers to digitally redesign and reimagine their living spaces, and then ships the mini furnitures they created directly to their home.
When studying more about 3D printing in advertising and learn more design techniques in the class, I want to create an 3D printed advertising campaign for a brand I like in later of this semester.
