Spring is Here!
Christy DaBreo on Mar 22nd 2010
My students did not want to cooperate with me on Friday. I think we have the nice weather to thank for their behavior. They just wanted to go play outside. We did get some work accomplished. They did their sight words and completed two worksheets. After that, I assigned each of them a word to look for in a newspaper or magazine. I hope that next week we will be able to get more work done. Overall, I see their improvement and that’s what really counts.

Alas, it is difficult to stay indoors when Spring is upon us! Are these students the same as when you started in the fall, Christy? If so, can you say, specifically, how they have improved because of your help? I am curious.
First of all, I must say that the students are much more comfortable around me. Before, they were a bit shy, but now they want to tell me everything and I do mean everything. I have noticed significant improvement in all my students. One of my students knows all the words on the high frequency word list. All of my students are better able to recognize words that they have trouble with because we do so many activities with these problematic words.
Great to hear how thing are progressing with your students. Especially with the problematic sight words. I know Mrs. Ben Aaman really stresses those drills, with good reason. The students you work with need the extra emphasis.
Remember, all these seemingly simple and sometimes mundane drills are helping your students build a strong literacy foundation. Something that will be critical to their future success as students and in life!
