Updated Artist Statement

To me, art is like going to war. I want my art to have attributes that are out of this world (not realistic) along with the amazing images that the world creates naturally.  The viewer must stop and understand how each part of the piece is interacting with each other. What does the size do? how does it effect the tone? How about the speed? Each specific piece plays a role for a larger meaning.

Often times I put into my art things that I am most obsessed with at the moment, things like batman and presidential campaigns, and most recently the power rangers.  The war in each art is the fight to understand what is real and what is not.  I dream, enhance all the greatest features  of my surroundings while minimizing the bad ones. The creations usually have strong contrasts, which displays me. My hobbies and interests have strong contrasts with each other. For example, I love offensive and crude humor but also meditate. In my pieces thinks are fast, slow, dark and bright.  It sticks out and makes your eye draw to it each dynamic and focus on each one a little longer than just the whole piece.

Combining non-real images with photographs always intrigued me. Watching a video where they take Mario from Nintendo and have him play the iconic game in a persons house. The whole video I thought was beautiful and really captured what I wanted to do with my work. Whether it would be Pokemon or distorting a persons voice.

Artist Statement

To me art is like going to war. I want my pieces to contain surreal experiences  like superheros, comics and fantasies and combine that with natural beauty that is present in nature and things that are man made. The viewer must stop and understand all the forces at play to understand the artworks message. Each specific piece plays a role for the entire image, this includes, added images, effects, and Etc.

Often times I put into my art things that I am most obsessed with at the moment, things like batman and presidential campaigns.  The war in each art is the fight to understand what is real and what is not.  The creations usually have strong contrasts, which displays me. My hobbies and interests have strong contrasts with each other. For example,  changing the color of a particular part of the image gives it a dimension it never had before. It sticks out and makes your eye draw to it. Colors such as red resemble me and put that along with black& white amplifies what the red does to the image. It doesn’t only give it color but helps the viewers eye see the details in each piece.

Combining non-real images with photographs always intrigued me. Watching a video where they take Mario from nintendo and have him play the iconic game  in a persons house. The whole video I thought was beautiful and really captured what I wanted to do with my work. Weather it would be a neon background or distorting a models face.

Lev Manovich: The Language of New Media: What is new Media?

1.Numerical Representation: Today’s technology actually allows us to show images  and shapes as math functions that can be altered using algorithms. New media objects are either analog or digital. The media has discrete levels of meaning, which means just peeling back the layers.

2. Modularity: Everything can be changed from a microscopic level. THink of videos and the still frames and how many it takes to make a movie. You can change one, and that change is seemed to microscopic. You change, delete add  parts of a media object if one desires. If the artist believes it means something then they can change something in the smallest detail.

3. Automation:

Everything you create on a digital device is derived from codes that are created from algorithms. This is where AI comes in. The device can aid you with completing your art. Make processes automatic and giving it a less human like feel. These techniques are used for effects on a scanned image or creating one from scratch. Think about the internet itself and how much information it has. WIth all the data, one piece of it seems very tiny. The tiny pieces can be sectioned off to give a person information regarding a certain subject.

4.Variability: A person can take an art and create a different version of it. New media gives us the ability to expand on others work. Variability relies on modularity. Being able to create different versions of the object. Think about apps getting updates on your computer upgrading to windows 10.

5.Transcoding : A way for the piece to change formats and so it is more widely used and expressed.

RIP: A remix Manifesto

This  documentary shed great light in to copyright and intellectual property laws. SOme big issues are brought up.

First, question is, is remixing songs stealing. I would have tos say no as long as you cite your sources. I compare it to when you were in english class in college and high school and you had to write an analysis of a particular reading, one must introduce and site the source. The original source doesn’t get paid for it! The same should go for remixing a song or reworking a painting. It just taking an original idea and expressing it your own way. Big corporations should not be able to to drag you into to court and then expect some random person who is not nearly as wealthy as the studio and pay money for rights of the song. It is not the original song, it was distorted and presented in a different way, and as long as the person sites the original source they should be fine.

Next topic! Napster and piracy! The biggest music library was being created through this network. People were able to share music and listen for free. That’s a big issue. America was founded on capitalism, so people primary goal is to make money doing something they love. For some it is music, or making films or some sort of entertainment, if it no longer became a valid source of income, the entertainment industry would take in less money and those jobs would be less desirable. Instead like in 1908 before people were able to record, music was created purely as a leisure activity and was just created to share with others because they simply enjoyed it. And now if an artist wants to make money it must tour and sell merchandise, record sales have dropped dramatically. People can still download music illegally, how can corporations control a device that obama considers a “born right”. For music, one can still be really rich as long as they make great music, and people have a desire to see them live. On the other hand, same does not go for movies.   Most actors would choose to be in live plays instead of major motion pictures if it was for free. It would be come a lost art which may happen.

How about intellectual Property? How can people claim an idea na no one else be able to use it without permission. This can become detrimental. We are made to innovate.  This is just going to prevent mankind to do such a thing. But I believe companies are realizing this. The man one is tesla. It has an open patent on its batteries, which means anyone can take it, and create their own, which is only going to make the process of everyone driving electric vehicles faster.  But other companies, like drug companies patent their drugs so no other manufacturer can create it and they can control the supply and set prices. That is just unfair. Why should taking medication be so expensive, if it can save lives, it should be free. I think the world needs to follow Brazil and did what they did when it comes to the pill to help fight HIV/ AIDS. They fought and stood up to the corporations and said “hey, this is going to save people” not for you guys to make money. Greed is the only reason intellectual property law exists. It shouldn’t, if you can do something so great, you should be able to sell the most in that industry.  IF you were the first to create the property, and then someone creates a better one. You better try and create an even better one.

THAT’S INNOVATION!

Seeing the Brick-Animation

” No animation film that is non objective and or non-linear can really  qualify as true animation since convectional liner representation has been far better done in live-action” .  Animation has been around longer than live-action starting from scrape books but, animation is supposed to be used as a thematic representation. William Moritz said that is why animation is an “avant garde” form of expression. It represents aspects of human thought, feeling and experience.  Len Lye tried to show the art of primitive cultures were in touch with neurological experiences of mankind, He produced an animation to show the cells in his brain as they neared death. This is animation is an abstract form.

It is stated that primal cave drawings are the first animations. It was considered sensual rather than rational interpretation.

What really intrigued me was Disney, Jeffrey Katzinburg and what he did for Pohcahontas. It was an exaggerated reality, and how the argument was ” If it is animation, it has to be a subject matter than can only be done in animation”. It is a compelling argument, but I beleive different artforms can do the same subject and each artform has its own way of expressing it. That is what led some people at Disney divided, and one would think a billion dollar company like that would not be so divided. That is how hyper realism came about.

I love hyper realism and “second order realism”
