3D Printer!

I remember the old times when we use to get excited about printing pictures at home. I know it is little old because now we just take pictures from our cell phones and upload it to Facebook. I think there is a full stop to it and it is 3D printer. I can imagine now with these printers everyone is making their own sculptures. Now you don.t have to be artist anymore or to pay a lot of money to some guy to make your own sculpture or any thing you want it in 3D. Now you can make one! You just need the code so the printer can get numerical representation and then translate to what we humans can understand (a little bit of Manovich!).

I am very excited for this new printer and can’t wait to have one and start making my own art!

It’s interesting that we no longer think of photographs as physical objects — people definitely print photos but it seems like we now interact with digital photos which, on the one hand, seem much more ephemeral than photographs printed on paper and, on the other, can be shared with others much more easily than paper photos. 3D printing is interesting for lots of reasons, not the least of which is that it allows a proliferation of physical artifacts, kind of what photos used to be.

  2. Totally agree! Photos were the big thing to have back in the days, now is available in our cellphones!, now Makerbot change it to print in 3D! how crazy and fast technology, is bringing over what was impossible to have, now available in our homes! 🙂

Yes i remember that time too!! It is funny how technology is evolving… It’s evolving so fast!!!! A replicator may cost $1,500 today and tomorrow it will cost about $500 as something else will come up.
