Ms. Aprilia is from Indonesia and is currently pursuing her PhD at the Department of Socio-Environmental Energy Science at Kyoto University in Japan. She has received scholarships from the Japanese Ministry of Education and Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) in order to pursue her degree. Ms. Aprilia prepared a paper entitled “Municipal Solid Waste Management and Waste-to-energy in Indonesia: A Policy Review” which was presented at the International Renewable Energy Symposium in Hanoi, Vietnam. She studies the total energy utilization and GHG emission (CO2 and methane) throughout the solid household waste cycle. She also worked as a consultant for the Mitsubishi Research Institute. Previously, she worked for the United Nations Environment Program, Regional Office for Asia and he Pacific, Bangkok, Thailand, for several years. Ms. Aprilia was appointed as the coordinator of the Asia Pacific Forum for Environment and Development (APFED) Showcase Program, and assessed hundreds of proposals ranging from climate change, 3R, to biodiversity. She delivered presentations at the APFED showcase in Japan, China, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. Additionally, Ms. Aprilia engages in climate-related meetings, including the COP-13 UNFCCC, and UNEP Sub-regional Environmental Policy Dialogue. She also received a full scholarship to pursue her Masters of Science in Urban Environmental Management from the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands.
Statement of Intent
Ms. Aprilia is interested in strategies for the application of integrated and sustainable solid household waste management. She also seeks to attain additional knowledge regarding environmental and socioeconomic impacts of GHG emissions. Additionally, Ms. Aprilia would like to increase her knowledge base regarding resilience-building in developing countries and climate change adaptation.
