Mr. Shankey has been the Senior Advisor to three Ministers and the Premier of Queensland. He is currently the Senior Advisor to the Premier of Queensland on Climate Change, Environment and Energy. He formerly served as the Chief of Staff to the Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation. Mr. Shankey possesses an extensive knowledge of climate and renewable energy legislation and policy. He interacts with the government, industry, media, and the community sectors. Mr. Shankey is currently developing the Queensland position on the carbon price, Queensland’s first Solar Energy Strategy and campaign for the state, as well as the Queensland Waste Strategy. He helped devise Queensland’s first Renewable Energy Plan and ensured passage of regulations in Parliament that protect the Great Barrier Reef from pollution. Mr. Shankey was also a senior journalist for Seven Network and a producer and researcher for ABC TV. Additionally, Mr. Shankey served the Commonwealth DPP as a lawyer. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Corporate Sustainability.
Statement of Intent
Mr. Shankey is interested in the local, national and international implications of climate change policy. He seeks to exchange views with regional and international perspectives to enhance the quality of his advice to decision makers. He also desires to share his experiences with climate change policy, clean coal, renewable energy, and geosequestration, with other climate change professionals in order to assist other regions.
