Ms. Omori has served as a Researcher and Consultant at Natsource Japan Co., Ltd. for nearly six years. Her responsibilities consist of assisting Japanese companies and government with issues related to the field of climate change, specifically through providing services related to Kyoto mechanisms (CDM, JI and international emission trading) and other crediting mechanisms.  In this capacity, Ms. Omori identifies and acquires clientele, researches and analyzes applicable data, and presents her findings. Ms. Omori offers the following knowledge base to the Fellows Program: the status of, and issues related to, the international emission trading market; trends in emission reduction mitigation projects in developing countries; international negotiations on post 2012 framework; and current and prospective climate change policies in Japan, particularly those related to emission trading. She has also worked on research on opportunities which carbon offset projects offer for poor rural communities at the Overseas Development Institute (UK), as well as assisting a Tunisian CDM consulting company for 5 months. Ms. Omori previously developed CDM projects in China for JGC Corporation, a Japanese engineering company. Her extensive list of professional travel experiences include the United States, Canada, China, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Denmark,  France, Tunisia and the Republic of Congo (amongst others).  Included in this list of endeavors is a 2005 BioCF plus Training Seminar in Washington D.C.  The seminar focused on forestry CDM project training and was hosted by the Carbon Finance Unit of the World Bank.  Ms. Omori holds a Master’s of International Studies (International Environmental Cooperation course) from Tokyo University.

Statement of Intent


Ms. Omori hopes to learn about the different domestic mitigation activities other than carbon emission trading, particularly urban strategies. She will use her newly acquired knowledge from the program in her consulting services to the Japanese government and private companies in order to develop more strategic climate change measures. In addition, as a member of the Young Environmental Professionals’ Network, she plans on sharing the knowledge obtained through this program with other members.
