Biography

Victor Tineo
New York, NY
U.S. Presidential Management
Fellow Finalist, U.S.G.

In June 2011, Victor received a Master’s Degree in Pacific International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).  As director for Strategic Communities Consulting from Spring 2010 to the present, he co-produced the 2010 San Diego Environmental Quality Report Card (EQRC), which analyzed the energy and environmental positions of all of San Diego’s elected officials. He also founded Political Analysis and Strategy Simulations, an organization started to provide students at UCSD’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) with an outlet to engage in simulated international political conflicts in an effort to further develop important skills such as critical thinking, time management, and the ability to work in teams.

During the summer of 2010, he was an intern with Fundación Mahatma Gandhi in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic, working with the elder citizenry to develop and document an oral history of the community to preserve the past in the face of rapidly changing times. He is a recently selected U.S. Fellow Finalist and is awaiting placement with a federal agency. He hopes to work with Department of Energy on environmental and energy policy.   From December 2008-April 2009, he was an Energy Industry and Policy Research intern with Rising Sun Energy Center in Berkeley, CA, researching state and federal energy policies relating to the green economy.

His career goal is to work helping to shape U.S. policies that will mitigate carbon emissions and provide research for new technologies that will bridge the gap between today’s carbon consumption society and tomorrow’s clean energy world. He believes the Climate Change Professional Fellowship will provide an invaluable experience and help him achieve that goal.  He believes the international collaborative focus of the Fellowship, where individuals of varied backgrounds unite to observe and discuss critical environmental issues like sustainable economies, climate change and the urban landscape is of vital importance and that it closely mirrors the work he hopes to pursue in his career.  He hopes to return from the fellowship better equipped to provide informed analyses regarding energy and the environment that would prove invaluable as he begins his career in the Federal Government.
