When getting students to attend your university you often need reasons as to why they should attend. One tool that schools use when trying to recruit students is by the use of their athletic programs. In a 2014 Forbes article published by Marc Edelman, he points out that whenever a school has a popular player or players, the schools applications dramatically increase. When Doug Flutie had his run with Boston College the undergraduate admissions increased by 25 points. The athletes are not only being cheated by not being paid but their schools in a way cheat them by using them as marketing tools.
College football games are usually played on days when there are no classes scheduled. However the NCAA sometimes schedules games on regular school days and this causes many students to miss their classes. The games that these players miss are often nationally televised games. To put everything into perspective, the NCAA knowingly schedule games that conflict with the athletes schedule so they can play on TV. Guess who profits off the players playing nationally televised and I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the players.
